There is not real difference between the 9800XT and the 9700pro in games today. Save your money. Some here will tell you the 9800XT is blah blah blah much faster but in real game play (as you fund out) they are almost the same.

That statement is wrong. There is a noticable difference in games. Especially with a higher res' and AA/AF. Sure in some games the difference is slight, but with most newer games, its rather large when you're stressing the card.

You missed my point. If you have a 9700pro there is no need for the 9800XT. There is just not a big enough improvment to justify the price per performance. The 9800XT is a great card if you have a pre-9700pro card. Also Riptide's own statement that there is not that much of an performance increase backs up my statment.

This is also why I don't "hang" out in the video card forum, because there is always someone such as your self that has to contend everything you post. I got tired of it.

BTW check my sig. I have a 9700pro. So it isn't as if I am bashing ATI.

I dont recall saying anything about upgrading to a 9800XT from a 9700 Pro. You said something that was wrong, and I called you on it. Simple as that.

There is a difference in todays games, when you stress the card. Case in point.

82 vs. 66 in 1280x1024 4xAA/8xAF.
61 vs. 34 in 1600x1200 4xAA/8xAF.

Id say CoD fits in to the "todays games" catagory. As I said, when stressing the card, there is a pretty large difference. If you play at 1024x768 with no or minimal AA/AF you arent likely to see much of a real difference. Once you get into higher res' and add in AA/AF, the 9800XT pulls itself away by a large margine in most games.

Do I think a 9800XT is worth the upgrade to most users? No, probably not. Currently the 9800 Pro is about the best thing going at around $200, in my opinion.

If I had the extra money I would also have upgraded the 9700pro to the 9800xt. But I did not have the cash last round..saved it for the NV40/r420

I stand corrected. I didn't see any performance difference because of the fact I prefer to play without AA/AF turned on. Seems the XT shines a little brighter if you utilize those features. But, since I don't, I may return it anyway...

FWIW, I'll try cranking FC up to 1600x1200 tonight and see how it runs @ that resolution now vs. with my "old" 9700Pro.

I agree that the 9800Pro is the best overall deal right now as far as ATI cards go.

I will buy a next-gen card from ATI or NV or then a 9800XT if ng's are too expensive. I'm happy now with my GF4 Ti 4400 doing the visuals but I will be extatic if FC runs smooth with the new card with ALL the bells and whistles + AF + paradise mode enabled and @ 1152x864 :P
