well the farcry engine is being licenced to other game developers.

Changing it to OpenGL just crashes the game for me.

WooHoo! Just got FC !!

been playing the game on my 2 PCs in turns !

on the 9800XT .. the game is running quite great 1024x768 , 2xAA/4xAF ,PS2.0 all very high .. water Q to Ultra high! (can goes up to 4xAA) .
thats w/o the patch since it has no effects for ATI cards .
using 4.3 Cats .. the new 4.3 really improved the shader performance over the 3.7 .

on the 5950U the game also is running quite fine .. 2xAA,4xF .. all same above .. except for PS1.1 .
Yup the patch really did improve the shader performace for FX cards .. i got some boost indoors (where shaders mostly used) .
its look like the optimizations reduce the shaders used in some un-nessecry places .
but in overall the game runs very good on both NVIDIA & ATI cards .. however the ATI cards is still faster even after v1.1 patch .

first impressions on patch 1.1:

I got 50 % improvements sometimes. I tried two indoors scenes that are really slow, using the flashlight. Here is what I got with FRAPS.

Patch 1.0 / Patch 1.1

21 fps / 31 fps
17 fps / 22 fps

But the fog of far trees is still completely wrong , I'm not sure they were talking about that fog issue in the patch.

I haven't done extensive tests, so I dunno if the pic quality has decreased or not (hope not of course). Could someone make more in depth tests?

EDIT: config P4C800-E Deluxe (1016), P4 2.6 C, 1024 MB DDR 400, Asus V9950 Ulltra (GF FX 5900 Ultra 256 MB) ForceWare 56.64

EDIT: playing all in Very high, Aniso Level 2, AA Medium (4X), 1024x768

Here my report on Far Cry...

It took about 10 mins to installed Far Cry and applied v1.1 patch. Before start the game, Far Cry auto-detected my system spec, put all setting to medium and also the water reflection to very high. I launched the game, when it reached to the game menu, the camera flying around the island in looping, it amazing.

I started the new campaign game, I am surprised it was very smooth at the medium settings both indoor and outdoor and then I exit the game to run fraps and back to the game, it reported 50 to 90 fps indoor and 30 to 50 fps outdoor, very impressive speed, I check the log, medium settings used both PS and VS 1.1 only. I went to the option and changed all the settings to very high, started the new campaign again and I was mind blowing at the quality of graphics , I thought PS 2.0 going to be slow on my system, I was wrong. Actually it went smooth, I checked the fraps for PS 2.0, it reported 35 to 60 fps indoor and 22 to 35 fps outdoor. This is brilliant news that PS 2.0 performance reach at around the same level as ATI's PS 2.0 performance.

I am really very surprised the game ran very fast on 1024x768 than the demo did slowed on 800x600 and crawled unplayable on 1024x768. Crytek done brilliant job with Far Cry engine, it surpassed Half Life 2 and of course it put Valve to shame, Crytek done excellent job to mend Nvidia PS 2.0 to gain great fps where Valve cant do it to fix poor fps performance on Nvidia PS 2.0, I think Crytek should teach Valve the lesson Crytek's method how to programming PS 2.0.

Pity I cant use PS 3.0 until I get NV45.

Ok I finally found the waterfall hehe. I am now using these settings in game... 1280x1024 all settings very high and water ultra high, no aa and 1 af. plays pretty damn good. don't know if I should stick with 1024x768 with 4xaa or stay at 1280x1024 and no aa. Plays about the same either way. This screenshot is at the 1280x1024 settings.

The game screams on my Radeon with 1280x1024x32 16 AF settings very high with vsync and forced triple buffering mostly between 25-80 fps, some areas are a little slow, but overall its very playable in this res.
