Exclamation ETA on next amd64 release?

I'm currently stuck with disabling AGP on my opteron box because of lags and lockups with the FX5200 on AGPgart. I can't use nvagp because of the Opteron's built-in gart features which force AGPgart to be compiled into the kernel; this means that a video card which should by all rights blow my old Geforce2MX out of the water currently gets performance I'd expect to see from a video card 7 years older. At least it's stable.

What really worries me is that I haven't seen any official acknowledgement of the problem, or any official denial of it for that matter. I sent linux-bugs two emails over the space of several weeks detailing my problem and including all the logs and readouts I could think of; I hope they got them, but they didn't answer so I have no way to know.

The threads here and here document the whole saga. I have been bumping these threads for the last 2 months and still have no idea if anyone from nvidia has seen them. I sent a private message to Andy Mecham and he did not respond to or recieve it; either he denied the reciept or he doesn't check his PMs.

I am not trying to spam the boards. I am simply trying to bring a problem to nvidia's attention that I don't think they're aware of; I'd be perfectly happy with any response from 'We know the problem and are looking into it, shut the hell up already!' to 'expect the new driver in a month or two', all I want to know is if nvidia has seen this at all.

Thanks!

You are not alone.

I have the QUADRO FX3000G costing US$3000 a piece and it's running slower than a TNT2 cos AGP is not enabled.

No one seems to be giving any answers for now.
So I guess we gotta keep waiting.....

Does AGP initialization fail because the driver bails (early) or because the AGPGART backend driver doesn't live up to expectations?

For me at least, AGPGART does work, sorta, except I get some godawful lagging when running anything OpenGL, and total system hangs everywhere from once a day to once a week. With AGP disabled, I get awful performance but no lagging and no hanging.

Have you had time to peek at the latest kernel release notes (I believe you were running 2.6.1mm2?) to see if there have been AGPGart updates for your particular chipset? I believe that 2.6.5 is right around the corner.

Thank you for your time,
A fellow gentoo user,
Frank Russo

I was running 2.6.1mm2 but switched to dev-sources, and have been upgrading as newer versions become available. Just today I'm installing dev-sources-2.6.4-r1.

Is this a nforce3 issue, because from the threads I have read at gentoo forum
Its seems to work fine on VIA chips, in both 32 bit and 64 bit mode.
I am looking to buy an athlon64 in a few days and am having trouble deciding between Gigabyte K8N and ASUS K8V.
I was waiting for nforce3 250, but other than pci lock which remains to be known. The rest of the features are a non issue for my needs.

Be careful here! I have the Asus K8V board and have not been able to get the 32 bit drivers working though the 64 bit drivers work well (and are not backward compatible).

Nope. My motherboard has an AMD chipset.

Sorry forgot about you rich dudes with dual Opteron's!
I'm so jelous...
Anyhow I should get an k8v and 3400+ tomorrow has allready shipped.
My first intention is to boot my existing k7 Xp Install. and simply recompile
my kernel adding cpu type k8 and amd64 AGPGART, and the other various
modules, ide, lan etc.. (I'm gonna prepare a kernel now...)
My second intention is to do a fresh Gentoo install for 64 bit.
And dual boot until nvidia miracles some 64bit drivers with 32 bit compatibility.
This seems to be what most people have done. And from what I am reading here the problem is that nvidia x86 driver won't build using a 32bit install on
a amd-64. Is this Correct?
