Corona688, you seem to definitively know how to increase your number of posts...

Cool Re: ETA on next amd64 release?

I have successfully gotten OpenGL applications to run on Gentoo64 at 64bit.

System Specs:
- AMD Athlon64 3000+
- GA-K8N Pro Motherboard
- GeForceFX 5900XT

System Setup:
- Kernel 2.6.5-rc2
- Forceware 53.32 drivers
- XFree86 4.3.0-r5

My XF86Config has: Option "NvAGP" "2"
When using 1, I noticed very low frame rates.

Currently, I get good framerates in UT2004, ~100 avg for deathmatch, and ~50 for Onslaught.

You are using a single processor system, I assume? The nvidia driver is reported to work good enough with AGPGART on a single processor AMD64 machine, but when running SMP, it develops the issues I have mentioned. It is not possible to use nvagp on an Opteron system either; the built-in GART features of the CPU itself force Linux to use AGPGART.

I do not know what else to do.. I have been unable to rectify this problem by myself, I have baffled the folks inhabiting #gentoo-amd64, I have done polite inquiries on nearly all official channels, and there has been no response from nvidia. Rather than assume any malice on their part I am working on the assumption that these boards are not closely monitored and this topic has been missed somehow.

I am trying to keep my posts useful; when new kernels become available and new suggestions are given, I try them, then post the results so that hopefully others can benefit. At the first response from nvidia, even if it's just "shut up already", I will no longer need to keep bumping the thread.

Corona, out of curiosity what 3D programs do you want to run that can use SMP?

The software I am developing, that's what. That's the whole reason I built a dual-opteron machine: Fast compilation, graphics power, and symmetric multiprocessing. The AI is going to take a great deal of power, so I intend to optimize it for multiprocessing and/or hyperthreading machines.

I guess that since the only traffic on this thread is your daily bump, I am going to unsubscribe.
