Yeah I'm downloading this tool as we speak, I have a few misc. ideas for a Half-life 2 mod and I'd like to see what I can do while we wait for the SDK. Not sure when the release of HL2 is planned, but personally I hope it's still off by a ways (gives us extra time to get more done before the game is out).

Does any one know what other games (besides Vampire the masquarade) are based on the H2 engine?. According to one of My game mag's (game informer I think). Those two games are suspiciously scheduled for 7/1/04. My thought is that there may be more games Just waiting for H2's release.

Yeah, I think a few games are using the Source engine. I don't think they're "waiting" for HL2's release though, they lisenced the engine and they can use it however they want. They can release a game based on Source tomarrow if they want.

These guy's disagree:
http://money.cnn.com/2004/02/02/comm...column_gaming/

"Half-Life 2" wasn't the only game delayed by the source-code theft. Valve had licensed out the game's "Source" graphics engine to developer Troika, which was hard at work building "Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines," a PC role-playing game. That game, initially set to be released this year, had to be delayed to implement the same security fixes needed on HL2. It now has a target release date of Spring 2005, said Trokia co-founder Jason Anderson."

They were affected by the code theft, but the release date of Half-life 2 doesn't have much effect on the game. If they could fix the security issues (although I doubt that alone is responsible for a 1-year delay in the game) then they could release it whenever they feel like it (or just whenever they get it done). If Half-life 2 gets pushed to, say, late 2005, I think we'd see Source-based games released before HL2 would. But at this point, Half-life 2 is the farthest along Source-based game, so we'll probably be seeing it first in any case.
