Question Twinview: Metamode gets altered?

I've got a Shuttle SN41G2 - AMD based nforce card, running Suse 2.4.19.

I've been trying to get twinview going, and note that even if I set up XF86Config

Option "TwinView"
Option "MetaMode" "1280x1024,1280x1024"
Option "SecondMonitorHoriz.." "30-81" <- these have values copied from the
Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" ".." <- firs monitor - which works ok

when I look at it with Yast2/Sax2 MetaMode has been reset to just "1280x1024"
(losing the second ",1280x1024"). this versioan has also been saved to
/etc/X11/XF86Config, so losing the details of the second monitor.

The second monitor is fine; I can swap the VGA cables round and the other monitor
displays great. The hardware appears to work under W*ND*WS.

Much puzzled... Any one seen this?

Kind regards

Smile Re: Twinview: Metamode gets altered?

Problems was due to the nfcorce GFX chip using motherboard memory.

Hence insufficient memory bandwidth to drive twinview at the requested
1280x1024 on both screens.

changing to 1024x768 works
