Question 32bit drivers on Asus K8V - $100AUD for charity to solve

I cannot seem to install the Nvidia 32 bit drivers on any 32 bit Mandrake (9.2, 10 (2 kernels)) version running on my 64 bit machine (AMD64 3000+). The 64 bit drivers work fine on the 64bit distro but I require the use of a 32bit distribution for now.

Every time I go to install, after the install starts the compiling the machine hard locks. I have tried almost all versions of the 32 bit drivers with the same result. I have tried enabling/disabling acpi/acip to no avail.

Am I being stupid or something? Can the 32 bit drivers work on a 64bit system running a 32bit kernel and distro?

Many of us are waiting for the AMD64 drivers to support 32 bit programs. Join the club.

This 32 bit Debian setup goes just fine with the 32 bit drivers. Maybe you are using the kernel video frame buffer (nVidia drivers don't like that). It is possible to pull apart the .run driver package and do a manual install, it could reveal something.

Can you give me some more information on this. I have now tried 2 distros, Gentoo and Mandrake with about a dozen kernels in all different configurations. As far as I can tell the nvidia drivers are causing the hard lock due to the ASM compiler that has been used?

I *really* wanna get this working!

Thanks
Michael

sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-5332-pkg0.run --help

...brings up the options. After that I can't help you - I haven't had to do a manual install.

I've been using both 32-bit and 64-bit drivers on the Tyan Thunder S2885 in 32-bit and 64-bit environments wtih no problems. Maybe there's something wrong with your kernel's agpgart driver? I also had to turn on ACPI and RSDT (root system descriptor table) for the S2885.

The problem is with the nvidia module, not the GLX driver. Its some kind of compatibility problem with the K8T800 chipset found on the Asus K8V. I am currently in contact with NVidia trying to sort this out. If anyone else with a K8V trying to use the 32 bit drivers could try to contact them it would be appreciated. They need to know about the problem before it can be fixed.

Works fine on my K8V & FX5900. both 32bit and 64bit modes. Kernel 2.6.4 vanilla and 2.6.5 vanilla. nvidia driver 5341 and 5332 respectively.
Dont expect this to work if you are running any kernel prior to 2.6.1!!!

Thus far I have tried it on the following kernels:

2.4.20, 2.4.22, 2.4.24, 2.4.25
2.6.1, 2.6.3

Since I only have a Ti4200, maybe that is the incompatiblity?

Do notice supragj's post too, its not just me

Anyway, once I've finished with the code I may be closer to an answer. Will keep it posted here. And whats this about a 5341 driver?
