Do you know what the brand and model of the old memory was? or more importantly was it DDR400 or slower stuff?

It was the same memory (I did not check it myself, but I assume this (quality) computer store did deliver what I ordered, CORSAIR VS512MB400).
Just called the computer store, they already returned the main board, but I still have the box that came with it, the label say's: Serial No. 42MM8R6312, Part No. 90-M9L06K-G0EAYZ, K8V SE Deluxe-EAYZ).
So it is/was DDR400 stuff.

This is without doubt the most frustrating compatiblity problem I've come across thus far cause I cannot really do anything to work around the problem

Thanks for providing the information anyhow.

I am doing this on a separate installation of SuSE 9.1-x86_64 and it runs very well.

I emailed Nvidia last wednesday, they said they'd release new drivers 'within the next few weeks'. In the meantime, I suppose I'll have to settle for playing the smokin' 64 bit version of ut2004

i have just been through this problem also in gentoo running in 32bit mode... 64bit runs fine in either bios release for my asus sk8v , but the nvidia drivers only work in 32bit if i downgrade to the 1001 bios. i still get crap though for fps in glxgears , 7900fps in 64bit and 4200fps in 32bit.

but atleast its working now.

ciao

and shout out to neenee and thanks to lil'bastard for pointing me to this thread and suggesting the bios downgrade as a possible solution.

Let me start with a...

WHOOOOHOOOOOO

I have the nvidia drivers working well, just downgraded to BIOS 1002 for the K8V Deluxe!

This will tide me over till the new drivers!

ooh, ooh!! Gigabyte have released a new BIOS for my motherboard.. It lists one of the changes as "Fixed system has compatibility issue with 64bit OS".. Which is at least 60% hopeful.. I'm gonna install them and try installing a 32 bit Linux with the nvidia drivers today.

I might also add that the 32 bit drivers are doing what the 64 bit drivers were doing, they both corrupt the graphics on the console after starting X. This doesn't bother me too much for the interim.

Good luck Imek with the new BIOS, hope it improves your situation. As for performance, the only benchmark thingy I have is Q3 which purrrs at ~250fps on my FX5700 with 5336

(strange no 1002 ...)
Hmm, better wait a litte longer on the new nVidia drivers....

Ok, that's an idee., but as far as I know there is only a demo 64 bit version of UT2004 or is there also a full 64 bit version (however sounds goooooood anyway)

ut2004 retail will install and run in 64bit mode... its very fast too. as is everything in 64bit compared to 32bit... as an example compiling glibc on the 64bit install takes 20 mins and on 32bit it takes 40 mins.

Daaaaamn!! I tried upgrading my BIOS from F6 to F7, but it did no good whatsoever.. I spent ages compiling a 32 bit gentoo install expecting it to work.. I also tried downgrading, tried versions F2 through F4 but nothing. For some reason, as I get lower down in the versions, my PC refuses to boot without me taking out the battery to manually reset the CMOS, so I didn't try F1. It looks like I'll have to stick with Windows for now, until Nvidia release new drivers.

Why oh why did I buy a Gigabyte board instead of an Asus one...

EDIT: It also drives my computer clock haywire every time I do a hard reboot because of it freezing when modprobing. I doubt it's very good for my reiser4 filesystem either, the modprobe crash completely messed up my old Gentoo install with reiserfs...

Everything works fine with Mandrake AMD64, but I don't want to use that :/
