computer hangs in 32bit mode when loading module, "module license 'NVIDIA' taints kernel".
i had bios version 1005 installed by default, just upgraded to 1007, same ****.
my question:
some of you are saying that it works with bios 1002, and the bios-versions you all mention are below mine....
i could downgrade to 1002 if it really helps but i can't imagine that 5 (!) versions after 1002 the problem isn't fixed again.

Who say's it's a BIOS bug ? Reading this thread it looks more like we need new drivers...

Although we do need new drivers for many reasons, this problem can be fixed by any of the 3 involved parties, Asus (for me), AMD and NVidia. I can work around the problem by using an old BIOS and the system seems stable enough. I really don't care which party fixes this, I just want 3D under 32bit distro running the latest BIOS.

I have that same problem with a nforce3 chipset motherboard on my Acer Aspire 1513LMi notebook.

My Athlon64 is also stepping 10.

And my graphics card is a Geforce FX 5700Go.

I hope it is solved soon.

They've been aware of it for a while now. They say they're going to be releasing new drivers, 'within the next few weeks' (and they said that just under two weeks ago).

Okay, for the record, it's now been three weeks and one hour since I got the email from nvidia saying 'within three weeks'. So... Any day now, then?

Just tested kernel 2.6.7
.. Great kernel, but no luck here the 32bit nVidia drivers still lock up my system when loaded
Hmm, altough the standard vesa driver runs pretty fast on my 32bit desktop, I've switch to >> Debian AMD64 <<.
Installed Debian kernel-source 2.6.6-4, compiled my own kernel and, at last, I've nVidia running again (with the patched drivers from www.minion.de !!). Re-installed UT2004 (now 64bit) and game .. on (40-65 fps !)

so, there are a lot of people with the same problem as we see.
i wrote an support request to nv with a link to this threat and an explanation about this stepping issue.

http://support.nvidia.com/Content/NV...questTypeID=10

there are a lot of people with the same problems - please write them too. maybe it has more effect, when they see that there are more compliants about it...?

Nvidia say this will be fixed with the new drivers but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for them

Exclamation Re: 32bit drivers on Asus K8V

Same problem here. Locks every time right at the kernel module modprobe. Athlon 64 3400+ (stepping 10), Geforce FX 5200, MSI K8N Neo Platinum (w/nvidia nForce3 250Gb chipset), 1Gb of Corsair (checked with memtest86) RAM.

Not yet ready to push my system over to 64bit.

At this point, I'd sign an NDA just to get my hands on the beta drivers! Seriously!

modprobe nvidia (or the driver install) locks as everyone else is getting.

Not sure what BIOS revision I have, didn't check yet. I can't seem to find BIOS 1002 for the K8V SE Deluxe *anywhere*, quadfour and thomas21 could you post a link for it?
