Default SuSE Nvidia

Hi all,

I have a Nvidia Geforce FX 5900 card. I run SuSE 9.0. When I install the Nvidia drivers via YAST / YOU, It works fine.

But if I try and install via nvidia.com (using the latest .run file), It install okes, but when starting X, the monitor goes into sleep mode and so have to do a reboot.

Is theiur any need to worry about this? Just so strange while via YOU works, but from nvidia.com does not?

Any ideas?

Regards

Robert

Wink Re: SuSE Nvidia

If you install with YOU, it'll do everything for you.

If you install from nvidia.com, you have to do sax2 -m 0=nvidia before starting X

where 0 is a number.

If the installation with YOU works, maybe you should keep it.

Hi,

I just tried the latest nvidia beta drivers *46.20) and they worked fine - no problems.

Is this the latest beta drivers? and also is the problem I was having a possible bug with the present drivers?

Cheers

Robert

4620 are leaked beta drivers (I never tried them).

you may also try 5341, that work fine here with a 2.4.xx kernel, but not with 2.6.4 from suse 9.1 beta.

5341: http://www.pny.com/support/drivers/?prod=quadro

Andy,

What worries me is that will SuSE 9.1 work with my card?

Does SuSE 9.1 have the same YOU update for nvidia drivers?

Regards

Robert

P.S - I have alredy preordered SuSE 9.1

Basically if they (drivers via YOU) work now with SuSE 9.0, then the card should work with SuSE 9.1 correct?

I think YOU 9.0 uses the latest driver from versions 1.0-4xxx (not 4620), but YOU from 9.1 will probably use version 1.0-5336 or a possible later one.

So, if YOU from SUSE 9.1 installs a version of the driver that doesn't work for your system (5336?), you can always try a previous version. (for 2.6.x kernels go to www.minion.de for older/unofficial drivers)

If you want to know what driver version you're using, just type glxinfo and check it out.

I'm sure that SUSE 9.1 will be a great product, and that it'll work ok with your card

I did a thing describing installing the drivers in order to get openGL support.

It is here:
