sooo, does resolution effect image quality or speed.. Given you don't care about image quality, what is it about hight resolution that helps you play, that isn't to do with image quality.. It sure doesn't make things faster running at high res, so if its not faster, and its not higher quality, what is it??

do you turn all your games down to their lowest graphics settings?? (ie, lowest texture resolution) This will make them run faster at the expense of IQ on any card, and can be done without lowering the resolution (that you seem to value).

In alot of games, Higher Resolution ='s More Menu and UI space, paticularly mmorpgs like Everquest,


I play in 1280x1024 in EQ because of the amount of space needed for the configurable user interface.

funny, you don't look like vamp... anyways, if this is the best argument for high res (that isn't image quality) then im not convinced.

the logic would go "speed is the only thing that matters, but we will sacrifice speed for resolution, however we don't get better IQ for our resolution, but we do get smaller menus, which is important even though we only care about speed."

Anyway, trying to say that resolution isn't a direct factor in image quality is nonsense as far as I'm concerned.

Who said I was arguing for anyone? I simply gave a reason why upping the resolution Would be viable to someone who had no interest in IQ,

Besides, Whats the point of posting on a message board if you dont expect others to join the conversation.


That is a good reason. If you play MMORPGs regularly you'd notice that screenspace for Pixels Is a big deal, For storing custom hotkeys, Chat Interfaces ect,

anyways, the only reason I said "you don't look like vamp" was that the questions were directed at him, in relation to his previous comments. I know plenty of reasons for high res, and the smaller menus sure do help.

yes, so do I, but it doesn't make sense as part of any arguments vamp has put forward.. And while i aggree with you, I made these posts specifically to address vamps agrument for his position.. So, yes you are right, 100%.. the menu space is great..

Anyone who claims to only care about speed and not IQ, but doesn't run ALL their games at the lowest IQ settings to get the best speed doesn't have a leg to stand on.

Dude, on MP I turn down setttings as glorious visuals that gets you pwned in most cases. In Halo MP for eg I have turned everything down, resolutions, effects off etc otherwise it is just not playable. I think Vamps maybe refering to that.
