256MB 2.2ns on Gainward 5950Ultra and 256MB ?ns on 9800Pro. I've never denied the fact that I am, in fact, a smart a$$ so you're spot on there. I'm not competing though. You came across as chippy right away and just pushed my buttons a bit. No problem here though.

Thanks for the "knee-bone connected to the shin-bone" clinic. We'll just have to agree to disagree on this. I'm admittedly talking a bit out of my since (like I said originally) I do not have Far Cry (yet).

It may not be fair to compare the performance of a 5900 np to a 9800XT, but I bet the 9800 Pro will out do a 5950 Ultra with the same system specs. I don't know how much the game is CPU dependent, and my system is definitely showing its age. But for the game to be unplayable at certain points with an above-average video card is ridiculous. I bet a 9600 XT or even a 9600 Pro will do better than my 5900, and those are mid-level cards.

This seems like a "trollish" thread....

On the Far Cry demo my old 5900NU BIOS flashed to 5950 could barely pull 30-40 fps in most situations at 1024x768. On my 9800 Pro, performance is at least double without changing anything else in the game configuration or system hardware.

Cool Re: Far Cry shows how pitiful GeForceFX is in DX9 games

I'm not trying to be a "troll." I'm just making an observation here. I know that Far Cry is an extremely demanding game. I also know that ATI's cards do better with this game because of their superior DX 9 performance. I just didn't know that Nvidia's DX 9 performance was so terrible. We're talking TWICE the performance here.

Pantherman,

I have no issues running Far Cry with my FX 5900 U - I get fps between 40 - 60 with fsaa set to 4x and picture quality is excellent. I'm currently running using the following settings:

Texture Quality Very High
Trilinear
Anistro 4
Particle Count Medium
Special Effects High
Environment Very High
Shadow Effects Medium
Water Quality Very High
Lighting Quality Medium or High

I'm using the Forceware 56.63 WHQL downloadable from guru3d.com or the MSI site.

You might also want to get the Audigy 2 ZS update that came out yesterday. The follow were implemented:

Added Feature:

EAX 4.0, containing DirectSound and Open AL API extensions, to utilize the EAX 4.0 ADVANCED HD Multiple Environment feature

Fixes

Resolves the issue of THX® Setup Console resetting to default values whenever it is launched.
Removes noise and distortion when THX Setup Console is used.
Synchronizes the settings between EAX® ADVANCED HD™ and Creative Graphic Equalizer.
Enables MIDI device name display in Windows® Multimedia Device and SoundFont® Bank Manager.
Enables the activation of imported EAX effect presets.
Resolves the audio mute issue that is encountered when certain EAX effect presets are activated.
Resolves the system stall issue that is encountered when rewinding or fast-forwarding DTS®-encoded audio CDs, on external DVD players that are playing back through your audio card.
Enhances the performance of PC games that use native OpenAL API extensions.

Don't worry, Nvidia will soon release new drivers that improve Farcry FPS with no noticeable loss in image quality.

I dont like 1280x1024, for the reason its not proper 4:3 aspect. Use 1280x960 instead.

Unfortunately many 17-inch LCD monitors use this for their native resolution. I personally would prefer 1280x960 or 1152x864, but those resolutions aren't properly supported in ATI's drivers (they are on NVIDIA's). Even with registry hacks, I still can't get them to work properly, so it's either 1024x768 or 1280x1024 for me.

It really depends on the monitor you are using.

Most CRT monitors don't have a 4:3 aspect ratio, it varies a lot depending on the tube. Right now I'm using a siemens 21" monitor and 1280x1024 looks much better than 1280x960, then again I really don't use any of those resolutions since this baby handles 1600x1200 and higher quite nice.

Is this problem restricted to LCD monitors? The reason I ask is because I use these resolutions all the time with no problems at all on my trusty old CRT.
