Tell me something, I have a friend with a nForce2, Radeon 9700Pro, AthlonXP 2400, DDR 400, overclocked to 2.2Ghz and a FSB of 193Mhz. he gets around 35fps in on the second check point in the farcry demo.

See my specs below, I get around 30fps with no overclocking, so the FX5900U is not "pitiful" at all.

But doesn't changing the memory speed to async almost always end up decreasing performance anyway (at least on Athlon systems)?

BTW - affect = verb, effect = noun - just a little tip.

Ha ya Sorry about that, Me no pass da engrish class.

Yes but theoretically if the system is all GPU bandwith, The Latency issue wouldnt be a big deal with CPU FSB, And it'd all be about Memory bandwith then. Where theoretically It'd have more memory bandwith,

(Hey dont ask me thats what the guy said, GPU is faster not because of FSB but because of bandwith and the CPU has nothing to do with it)

I'm just offering a way to test that theory where CPU/FSB have little play and its all about GPU and Memory bandwith

IE the last 3 games tests of 3dmark2003, Or heck Even Far Cry, If the game isnt CPU limited And these tests arent at all, The Improved memory bandwith would improve performance and the FSB would running async wouldnt be such a latency issue

Ultrahigh setting for water quality is already there, you don't need to edit anything

Maybe ultrahigh is only for the Radeon users, maybe I'm wrong...

The option is there for geforce, as well as ati users.

But I said it before, I'll say it again. Far Cry is HEAVILY gpu dependant.

That's because PS2.0 is only used on the indoors areas. Anyways, I feel sorry for the FX 5900 owners. My overclocked 9600XT stays at 30-35fps indoors and 40-50fps outdoors at 1024x768 with everything on very high. I'll see how higher resolutions effect performance (im thinking that bandwidth will come into play with anything higher than 1024x768 and let the 5900 beat it out)

Oh, I'm sorry, you lose the daily double. The answer we were looking for was, "I'll see how higher resolutions affect performance." But thanks for playing our game!
