Default Anyone else notice the difference between the UT2K4 and Far Cry sticky threads?

UT2K4 thread: "OMG this game is so awesome. I played ONS for 5 hours last night. What server are you on? This is so cool. Have you tried the Leviathan? etc."

Far Cry thread: "OMG, how do you get a playable frame rate? Don't install the patch. Turn AA off in-game. Uninstall and reinstall without the patch. Set environment quality to medium. What video card do you need to be able to play this game decently? I can't believe my monster system won't play this game with such and such enabled at such and such resolution."

See the difference? People are playing and enjoying UT2K4 right out of the box because it is a POLISHED game. Far Cry seems to have been developed for hardware that hasn't been released yet.

It just became a little obvious when people immediately started having fun with UT2K4 and people were having frame rate problems with Far Cry. Just an observation...

Thats coz UT2k4 is basically a rehashed unreal eninge with few improvements but requires few PS powah.

whereas Far Cry is a new engine that does hell lot more and requires extensive PS powah

far cry plays rather smooth @ my end @ 12x10 res... and I am happy enough with it...

I don't expect my video card to run everything flawlessly over 1.5 yrs after retail... but its doing its job remarkably well...

also keep in mind ut2k4 is basically a dx7 game for the most part... far cry is dx9... and the vista's in far cry are HUGE ergo the engine really is rather polished considering hte sheer amount of stuff you are dealing with (bump-mapping/high level shaders all over the place)

Both games are awesome. I haven't played UT2004 in a week now though: been addicted to Far Cry and can't stop playing it!!!

Both are excellent, and both run like a dream here. In the case of Far Cry, it's about time and game developers step up to the plate and realize that people with newer cards want to run something that will push it to its limits.

And out of curiosity, how much does your monitor weigh? A 22" CRT must break your back in half.

To be honest though... I think the short little alien looking ones that don't carry weapons are the biggest pests. If you let them get close they can rip you apart in seconds, no matter how much health/armor you had.

This game scares the bejesus out of me. I can only imagine what it'll be like when I play Doom]|[. To take out the rocket wielding enemies, I try to get in close and give them a few rounds to the face.

i think it weighs about 45 pounds. it's pretty big, no doubt. i've got a huge L-shaped desk, and the monitor sits in the corner of the L. it's a great monitor. heck, it's a great system. i guess i'm just whining that i can't crank up the AA and AF on this game...

That works well also. It's just not always easy to get in up close and there is a spot in the game when you're down in the archives that you run into two of them in a fairly confined area. Getting up close there is difficult.. Better to use grenades and rockets in that particular spot. If you can take pot shots at them though I agree 100%: get the rifle out and snipe them in the face.
