...or if you don't have the Sniper Rifle handy, I've found the shotgun to be quite nice in dealing with them too.

Not neccessarily. Seeing as you enjoy playing PS2.0 games on your highend rig, it wouldn't be a bad idea to check out both ATi & Nvidia's upcoming offerings that offer much better PS performance. Besides, it wouldn't take any time to sell the old card. Theres nothing more frustrating than shelling out the cash for a rig only to be disappointed by its performance.

Ditto me. I see Unreal Tournament as the "tried and tested" sort of recipe. Very reliable, very polished. On the other hand, Far Cry is a bold step ahead, a game that's closer to the edge of available technology and in truth, i think we need to get both of these types of games. Far Cry in particular reminded me of IW. It too ran like a dog on a few good systems but it was a step forward in graphics with all those real-time shadows. Unfortunately i've put my copy of FC on the shelf since i decided to see it with an NV40. So, no FC for me. At least for the time being

you've got more will power than i do my friend. i've gone through 4 of the 20 missions and the performance is "good enough" for me. i wish i could crank EVERYTHING up and turn on 4xAA and 8xAF, but just can't at the moment.

Far Cry runs "eh" on my comp, but I have to suffer, no 5700/9700 yet on laptops...

I'm running FarCry on a 9600XT and it does well. AA is set on low, AF at 2x, water on ultra high, environment on high, and everything else at medium. Have not had a problem yet with those settings.

Damn performance junkies.. since when do you ahve to max out a game to enjoy it? I think Udawgs philosophy of testing it to enjoy the eye candy, then turning it down to enjoy the actual GAME makes a lot of sense. When mario came out people weren't crying that they couldn't make him higher res...

The PURESTS only accept 8-bit Mario.
Don't give me no 64-bit nonsense.
