Doesn't it seems strange to anyone else that the benchmark results for the Upgrade complete artice are Invalid because the writer reviews his New Athlon64 3400+ against his Old Athlon Xp 3000 and doesn't use the same video cards! He used a Radeon 9800 pro in the XP system and a GeForce FX 5950 Ultra in the Athlon64 system. Even though i'm a big nvidia fan I know that using halo w/ps 2.0 to test the differences in speed a new cpu would give you much less difference in performance for the 64 if you don't use the same video card for that test. We all know that the 9800 pro would outperform the FX 5950, thus making the differences between processing power in the two cpu's incorrect

They aren't bogus ...not an apples to apples comparision per say but benches nonetheless. Take it for what it is, Mike's lil delve into athlon64 systems and its no review as he's only getting the gigglies from such an upgrade....
Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill.

Accept my apologies if I mislead anyone, but that was not my intention. My goal was to show how two popular games, that are widely used as benchmarks, react differently depending on the CPU being used. Unreal Tournament 2003 thrives with the Athlon 64 while Halo does not.
I could have left out mentioning the graphics cards since switching them around would make little difference in performance. At least that is what I have been led to believe in the reviews I have read. Contrary to popular belief, I was not intentionally trying to degrade the Radeon 9800 Pro. I have used it often and I chose to install it in the system I had been using before giving the system to my son. |

I had missed the fact when looking at the news story that there were too different video cards used in the benchmarking. I saw the title and then skimmed the text until I got to the benchmarks (which is typically what I do with most "reviews" (not that I am calling the post a review)).

Sad to see Mike having to explain such a simple thing as this. Is there a stupidity virus on the loose?
I guess it's popular to hate nvnews these days though. Some people just seem to do everything they can to make this site look bad. Anyone wanna bet we'll see this little "mistake" posted on the other boards out there? -OMG!! nvnews is saying the 5950 is faster than 9800 pro!!11 -Noway??! -Yeah! 20 fps faster in ut2k3 botmatch!!11 -Nooo! Biased fools! I'll never visit their forums again!!

I thought he was just showing the new cpu...
mike never said he was doing an apples to apples compare nor do I think was there an intention to compare the graphics cards... rather I think he was just showing how much better the new cpu is in real terms over the old... |
