Well for one thing I would imagine the pixel shader fx everyone is drooling over wouldn't be as nice. Someone correct me if I'm wrong..

I would play it that way, but once I get into the game, two seconds later it crashes back to my desktop. Guess ATI's OpenGL drivers no likey.

Make sure Motion Blur is turned off. its picky at this time in OpenGL.

On the openGl thingy, would it be wise for me to swap to it?

I'm running all medium and the particle count and effects on low (GF4 Ti4200 128mb).

I'm getting something like average 30 fps outside in the rebellion part of the game... sometimes dipping to 20fps.

Sure NO.... i haven't tried it my self , but some people did on Nvidia cards said there is missing effects , must be in one of these threads to lazey to look for it isn't very important at this point play with whats works best for you

Althought there would be little point to us DX9 and Shaders 2.0 if OpenGL could do it faster and look same !

well, i tried at with openGL and it loked okay, but unless i had vsync enabled there are these horzontally aligned black lines going from top to bottom of the screen. ion direct3d this doesnt happen. any ideas?

The far cry dev's stopped supporting OGL quite a while ago.. i doubt the game will be hardly as optimised of OGL as it has been for DX9. Still, it's an alternative i suppose. Especially for 'older' GPU's like NV20-25 etc.
