K8T800 Chipset and Nvidia Driver (AMD64)

I have a Gigabyte GA-K8VT800 Pro (K8T800/VT8237 chipsets) motherboard with the Athlon 64 3000,1 Gb DDR and the Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 (128 Mb) card. This system is running Suse 9 (AMD64).

I downloaded version 1.0-5332 of the driver and ran the installer (log attached). It finished with warnings but passed the checks performed toward the end of the install.. I then went to SAX2 (runlevel 3) and configured my graphics card. The FX 5200 was not listed and the 0x0322 PCI ID was used instead. When I checked the XF86Config it was still using the "nv" driver.

I changed the driver from "nv" to "nvidia" and verified the GLX entry in the modules section. When I started X all I got was a black screen with blue lines at the bottom. I checked the XFree86 log file and it reported successfully loading the "nvidia" driver and activating AGP 8X mode.

I also did some search in this forum and some messages mention that this version of the nvidia driver does not work with the K8T800 chipset. Is this true?

Without error messages to guide me I don't know what I should check next. Any help would be appreciated.

It seems to be that way for me. It works, but not stable. I've even tried changing the power supply to another one. I've also got no response from NVIDIA regarding my report to them. Since it's not in the supported list in the readme, I'd say your statement is correct.

Thanks for confirming the information I had read. I guess I'll just have to wait until a new version is released.

What about compiling the 2.6.5 with AMD64 options, does that still hold true for the driver?
