To experts,
I can get my GeForce4 MX 420 work on Redhat 7.2 I have installed Redhat Linux 7.2 in a Dell Dimension 4500 Display card is GeForce 4 MX 420 On startup I get the error on startup CODE Probing Display Card : Cannot Probe Display Card Then I follow the NVIDIA homepage to update the Display Card Drivers using CODE ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-5336-pkg1.run And change the configuration in /etc/X11/XF86Config In the module section add CODE Load "glx" In the Driver section add CODE Driver "nvidia" when I startx I got these error CODE (**) FontPath set to "unix/:7100" (--) SVGA: PCI: NVidia Unknown chipset (0x0172) rev 163, Memory @ 0xfd000000, 0xf0000000 (--) SVGA: chipset: generic (**) SVGA: videoram: 65536k (--) SVGA: clocks: 25.18 (**) SVGA: 16bpp not supported for this chipset *** A configured device found, but display modes could not be resolved.*** Anyone can help, because this is stopping me to install further software in the system. e.g. ORACLE client and ... I have tried to upgrade the kernel and XFree86 but failed when I type lsmod and find that there is no nvidia module loaded any one can help me please, thank you thank you |

try
modprobe nvidia before you run startx, if nvidia is not listed in a lsmod then you need to modprobe it in there. from the readme GeForce4 MX 460 0x0170 GeForce4 MX 440 0x0171 GeForce4 MX 420 0x0172 GeForce4 MX 440-SE 0x0173 so your card is supported |
