i dont quite get what you mean by "high standard considering" .

Considering there is not that many comerical games for Linux, UT2004, Quake3, RTCW, NWN, serious sam all play exceptionally well saying the driver is not opensourced. People cannot see the difference between a bug in the driver or what I've explained above in my pervious post.

I would like to add again. The main reason nvidia produces linux drivers is not for gamers.
They produce drivers for the benefit of high end workstations.
As far as numbers of linux gamers, these numbers are known by game manufactures, by means of the stats from game servers than from actual sales.

Man, there are a lot of whiners here. Nvidia keeping their drivers closed is their commercial decision. If you don't like it, get another brand! Get over it.

I'm sure Nvidia fixed the 4k stacks problem in 5 minutes flat, but there's the bigger issue of 6800 support, which is needed in the next driver. Remember that ATI's new part seems to have better raw performance then the 6800, so driver quality will be a big competitive issue.

So what if you can't upgrade to a new kernel? Use your old one for a few more weeks- honest, it won't kill you! A little delay in a driver release doesn't qualify as bad support.
