Default Computer Hangs up after installing the new Linux IA32 driver

Hi there,

Since some of the softwares I run need OpenGL support, and since my graphics card was a NVIDIA product, I installed the new driver.

Installation was correct except that it couldnt find a compatible kernel or something like that (I am a LINUX newbie, so please excuse my wording), but it worked fine.

When I started the x-window, it started fine but after a few minutes hung up and I couldnt do anything other than restart the entire system.

I restarted the system around 5 times and each times I faced the same problem after logging into the x-window.

Please find the XConfig-4.txt file attached to this message.

I would appreciate your advise as to how to get around this.

Best regards,
Kar

Code:
#Load "GLcore"

So, you mean since my kernel is 2.4.20-18.7 custom (REDHAT 7.3), I should install the older version of the driver, i.e, NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4620-pkg1.run

Thanks,
kar

SuLinUX,
What is different with the 5336 driver listed on "THIS" page than what can be dounloaded from the nvidia web-site.?

Also can you look at my problem?

Still the same problem with the older driver (NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4620-pkg1.run )

Is there something I can do to re-install the backup the original driver.

Did you try the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-5336-pkg0.run in the link I gave you?

Hi SuLinux,

thanks a lot. I didnt try the new one but rather the older one, but will try the new one tomorrow and see whether it solves the problem. Its become pretty late now.

Thanks,
kar

It gives the same problem with the new one, i.e, the screen completely hangs up..only the mouse movement is possible and I have to restart the computer again.

Dont know what to do.... would appreciate your advise.

Best,
Kar

You can use the original SuSE nv driver by type as root, sax2 -m 0=nv

You should activate the driver from nvidia by sax2 -m 0=nvidia and in the advanced settings of the nvidia driver there is a option to set nvagp, try setting it to 1.

If it stops then try Ctrl, Alt, Backspace or Ctrl, Alt, F1.
