It seems that FreeBSD/amd64 doesn't currently support loadable kernel modules; there also doesn't seem to be FreeBSD/x86 (?), let alone Linux binary compatibility.

Be happy, at least there is a FreeBSD x86 driver, try it with an ATI card and see how far you'll get.

FreeBSD/x86 compatibility is provided with the line COMPAT_IA32 in kernel config. Linux/32 compatibaility is provided with the line COMPAT_LINUX32 in kernel config. Wating for 64 bit linux compatibility if that is an issue. But those options do work and have been loaded/tested in my current FreeBSD 5.3 RELEASE AMD64 kernel.
