Left looks smoother again.
But smoke looks better on right(or darker).
Which one is closer to the originally intended image?

I would basically call it a tie between the 6800 and the 9800 with those shots. The only one that looks bad in the large shots is the 5950, very lame for the same settings.

could it be possible for the fx 59xx to use RGMS at 4x?

Supposedly 2xAA is rotary grid on the nv35/38

Face it.... Nvidia done good this time.
There IQ is as good as ATI now with nvidia's stable drivers
and the card uses brute force.

The NV40 is going to do very well for nvidia.
The days of sniffin the dirt are over. "lol"

Nope 2x RGMS + RGSS (1x2 RGMS + 1x2 OGSS) (essentially a Rotated Grid Pattern just like 8xS uses OGSS And RGMS but produces a Rotated Grid Results)

I present you 4xS sample pattern taken from my own PC.

4xS looks better than 6x and very close to 8xS on nvidia hardware,

8xS is also posted below, These patterns are possible because Nvidia does 2 Sample Multi Sampling in a Rotated Grid.

Left. A smoother gradient.. more colours used to ease the enges into the background.

there is hardly any differences other than the blurred edges

mmm.. its not that hard if you look at the full screenshots, funny when Mike told the names ,people change ..

NV40 :mmm.. if you look at the full size screenshots the center of the airplane.. the big circle you will notice more smoother in the Geforce6800 shot if you swap pictures.. but also at at the top of the right wing.. the R3xx shot is less smooth the lines. same with the call of duty shots.

it seems that the left picture.. looks to be the geforce..if that is correct.. i will like to see R3xx 6xaa vs Nvidia 4xaa.. to see the diferences.
both shots are excelent ,pretty much comparable ,but still jaggies are more noticeable in the right shot.. less smooth (a bit rough), just look at the full screenshots . contrast is higher too in the left . the right is darker..(blurer) ,maybe is that i have good eye sight but its the second time that i predict which one is the Geforce

"4xS looks better than 6x and very close to 8xS on nvidia hardware,"

4xS looks like dung, 4x Guassian is much better.

A link to the DirectX reference image is available on this page:

Note that the reference image does not contain AA/AF.
