Man you must love Blur Filters, 4xS looks superior to me to 4x9tap, While nice, Also adds a blur,

I'll take the sharpened textures and improved horizontal edges to 4x9tap Blur filter ;p

Yes I do like filters.
That's why I always used either 4x 9-tap or QCX AA on my former NV20.

Thanks, now, the left is not only smoother, but closer to the original.

I am glad you are doing posts like these,

It demonstrates what I have said all along. Most rational folk do not claim huge IQ differences between Nvidia and Ati. They are minute at best. In the past the largest factor was the quality of Ati's AA, but now that is so close I consider it moot.

I see a few odd pixels sticking out on the zoomed in Radeon shot that I don't see on the 6800. So I give the edge to NVIDIA, but overall they're almost completely even.

The right tail wing on the pic on the right looks cleaner at non zommed levels(looking at the pic, not the planes right wing).
The intake on the left pic looks rounder.
The right pic has a bit deeper colors it seems(smoke/flames)

Pretty close actually, I will say that NV seems to have done a good job from the pics I have seen so far.

I am NOT referring to the BS farCry shots.

Far Cry shots on the NV40 are not being compared just because of the FX checking, but other games I've seen, ATI/nVidia both have close, if not the exact same, image quailty with AA now. Depending on SM/PS3.0, of course

as for the original pics, the one on the right for me but it's fairly close.

I have a decent monitor and so I can keep the colour curve flat and atis gamma corrected AA works well. For those who raise the gamma then non gamma corrected AA will start to look better.

The right is a bit less smoothed in some places though because the angle for most edges is more favourable to the nv40 as it's 4xAA is rotated / way while r3xx is done \ way.

Tgwy both look pretty much the same but the right has slightly smoother edges.

i have a decent monitor too.. and here its looks clear that the right have more jaggies.(at the center of the jet, right wing, the cannons, the conckipt..etc..) ,but also looks darker.however it doesnt look bad.both screenshots are good. it just that the left looks perfectly smooth.this is noticeable mostly in the full size screenshots ,when swapping pictures .the majority here said the left . so i think it will be nice to see 6xAA in ATI vs 4x NV40,to see how far or closer they are. probably gamma correction is not working in 3dmark or have been overhyped too much .
