That is a nice rig! Well as with most questions like this the answer is "it depends". What kinds of games do you play most of the time?

Sorry, chose the wrong graphics card. I updated it.

Lets say, I play Doom 3 and such games.

There is no real good answer for that.

However, that is a really good CPU and ram, so its life is expandible if you simply buy a new video card a cuple years down the road.

So, you are saying that I could game on that PC for 3 years without upgrading?

Not really, it really depends on how aggressive Gamemakers ramp up their game engines and effects!

Then also what kind of games you play, and then if intel gets their way with Pci Express and so on.

Also, it depends on what FPS you will be willing to play future games and at what resolutions you will determine is acceptible. SO there is no real good way heh.

Damnit.

Gaming consoles make this so much easier.

Realisticly on a system like this you could play games for the next 2yrs comfortably(as like many of us with Geforce 4TI users are doing now). But as each year goes by, your FPS will most likley take hits, I think 3-4yrs is a safe bet(of course in the latter years no AA/AF could be used)

thats a seriously nice pc, but u do realise alienware rip u off big style, you would be better off getting the parts yourself and building it (aslong as u know what ur doing). also imo the plastic alienware case looks horrible.

Please stay on topic and don't criticize like this. Everyone is different and there are some legitimate reasons to buy a pre-built system even if they are more expensive.

Which do you think has better resale value? The Alienware or the Dell Dimension XPS? I am asking this because I don't upgrade my computers, but rather use them till they are too slow and then get a brand new PC.

Well to answer that questions it also depends. Some might argue that the name brand recognition of Alienware might help to make it more resellable. Kind of like reselling a Ford Mustang vs. a car you built yourself from parts. Just kiddiing, Dell XPS also has a very well known brand name but it isn't as recognzied as Alienware is when it comes to a serious gaming rig, although that perception is changing. On the other hand, I'd say that most buyers would mostly ignore the name brand and weigh the value of all the parts (CPU, motherboard, memory, video card, etc) that make up the system and purchase based on that. I say this since it would likely be a few years old at that point and the purchase would probably be for a little brother, father, friend, etc that is just needing a good starter system geared towards gaming.
