Thanks.

And do you also agree that PCs will always have better graphics and game performance than gaming consoles?

Well sure, at least for the foreseeable future. Consoles are obviously locked in at whatever hardware they're initially designed with (i.e. not upgradable). That fact alone will always be major downside to letting them even begin to compete with PCs when it comes to "better graphics and game performance".

But seeing how Doom 3 will be coming to the Xbox with similar visuals to the PC version, it seems consoles are much more efficient.

I dont think we can judge that untill we see both of the games in action.

From buiding my own pcs for about 5yrs, I would say yes, 3yrs, but by that 3yrs you will need to start using lower resolutions say 800*600, and reduce ingame details. After 2yrs, you can forget about any AA or AF, but should still be able to play at decent settings, 1024*768 and max-med ingame details.

I'd say that is one fine machine!

Technically speaking (aside from the processor), you pretty much have the best of the best.

I dare say that it would last at least 2 full years, and still kick arse. However, as I've seen over the years, future games a-la-Doom3 will slaughter PC's.

You might have to change to a new MoBo with pci-express once they're out...

Take a look at my specs... I'm still a hardcore gamer and I've had this rig for a bit under 2 years (upgraded vid card and 512mb extra).

How long could this PC "survive" the latest and upcoming games without requiring an upgrade?
Those PC specs would last you a pretty damn long time

Remember that even a GF4TI can still play most of todays games, and that card was released back in the Spring of 2002. And by making the very wise decision to go Athlon64, I would estimate those specs would allow you to play from highest to normal detail settings in all games up thru Summer 2007

If I were going to upgrade anything on your PC, my ONLY recommendation would be the RAM. UT2k4 has shown me that new games are getting really RAM hungry, and so while 1gig should last you fine, if you don't wanna have to deal with disk swapping and tweaking to free up memory you may wanna get 1.5 to 2gigs RAM. 1.5 would be ok since none of the Athlon64 boards available support Dual Channel yet anyway.

Isn't the GF3 just now approaching three years old?
