The Dell because it has the better video card, a Mobility R9700.

Also check out HP laptops because they got Athlon64 models.. but I don't think they're offering the R9600 or R9700 yet in them

3 year would be a good choice, maybe with an upgrade to your video card after 1 or 2 years. Ofcouse you could use it longer, but I think 2.5 to 3 years is just right for a computer, atleast thats as long as I myself use to have my computers.
I bought my current computer, an AMD 1900+ with a GF 3 about 2.5 years ago, just after the 1900+ was released, and am planning to buy a new at the end of the year/ early next year.
The only thing I've upgraded on my computer is the video card, to a R 9700 Pro card.

Actually, the mobility Radeon 9700 isn't like a regular "Radeon 9700" at all - it's just a 9600 clocked a little faster. Same pipes, same memory bus width.
