Default Re: Half-Life2 delayed until "05"...per Gabe

What ever happened to blaming the delay on the leak, that satement alone shows it to be an absolute lie...

I also want to say that he didn't state it was going to be delayed till 2005, just that if thats what it takes for them to be happy with the final product they're willing to spend as much time and money as necessary. The statement was made to reiterate their commitment, not to give a timeline for release(for those that dont realize how out of context this threads title was taken ).

Either way Gabe looks like a fool.

I'm merely stating that there was no official announcement of the delay.

God he was just saying that he wants to make the game good... I dont understand why everybody is taking things so seriously, do you think Gabe doesn't know whats good? That he should just release now even if its buggy? Trust me, Half Life 1 was delayed a full year, are any of us complaining? No.
So let's just wait, no doubt if it is delayed, it is only to make our experience even better.

I wonder, did Far Cry rattled them a bit? Did it act as a wake-up call? Anyway i've always appreciated a studio/publisher giving a solid date and keeping their word. I even prefer the ridiculous "when it's ready" than a "certain" promised date that comes and goes and nothing's ready. There's a good chance i won't buy it if they keep delaying it and the same applies to Doom 3 for example. I just don't see why certain studios get preferential treatment from their fans who patiently wait and wait just because "it's Valve" or whatever.

Funny that some people say that by the time the game is released it will just be "another" first-person shooter, but then some of those same people say they're looking forward to Doom 3...

Wasn't that quote from about a week after the code was stolen?.
Hopefully He's decided to scale the visuals up more to the capabilities of the 6800.
Hey, then He can include a steam preorder voucher for HL2 with the Nvidia card's too.
I still think that HL2 will blow away all other games, now that they've had a taste of farcry. They're not ones to be outdone.

Heck, I'm still looking forward to DNF. I don't know why many people equate a delayed game with a bad game.

Agreed, I don't remember anyone back in 1997 saying "OMG Half-life is delayed until NEXT YEAR? That game is going to suck, I don't care about it anymore". Not to mention I'd much rather have a delayed game than another Ultima 9 (hey, great idea guys, release a game that CAN'T BE BEATEN without patches!)

Though I'm not so sure about DNF, taking a while to release a game is one thing, but DNF is getting rediculous (not to mention about the only media they've ever released on the game is the E3 2001 trailer...we don't even know how the game looks now).

Edit: No, Daikatana wasn't just delayed, it was ripped apart by the developers countless times and then in the end they just said "we don't care how it turned out, we'll just release it and make money off of it". Hell, maybe if they had delayed the game and actually improved the AI (not to mention the actual gameplay...), it would've turned out enjoyable. Sadly, that was not the case.

Heh, I knew the Daikatana reference was going to come up. Remember that DNF, in it's current incarnation, has only been in development since 2002 since they scrapped all of their code up to that point when they changed engines.

They aren't delaying the games just to jerk us around. They are making decisions that they believe will benefit both the developers and the gamers (although they sometimes regret the decisions they make like changing engines for DNF).
