Default Re: Far Cry benchmark

BTW, got Far Cry today, loaded up the 1.1 patch and am in the process of defragmenting my hard drive. It got badly fragmented installing this

Will see how this goes at 1024 x 768. I'm toying with the idea however, if it's too low, I should be able to OC my CPU a little and see. Lets just say that on the AXP 1900+ I have an OCZ Gladiator copper sink I bought several years ago from the Overclockerz store, it does keep my CPU down to about 42-44 C under load, and I got Corsair XMS 2400 CAS 2.0 DDR (effectively rated at 300 MHz DDR, running on a DDR 266 MHz bus). I sorta designed a system that can OC, but didn't really push it to date

Will see first at stock, and then decide from there...

Can someone tell me what the set of benchmarks does wrt resolution, color depth, and refresh rate?

I ask, because running the first, it went so far in, and then I got an out of range message from my monitor. Whatever it is, my monitor doesn't like, and pukes. I'm not sure if it was finished and reset settings different then they were when it started, or what. Nothing showed up in the results folder however, when I rebooted. I did set the res in the bench to something that should be handled by the bench though...

Edit: The first bench BSODed earlier in trying to run it again, hmm... A System Error as recorded in event viewer

Quote:
Error code 100000d1, Parameter1 00000001, Parameter2 00000009, Parameter3, 00000001, Parameter4 b4a2156b
There was no over-clocking this run around...

which benchmark are you running?

the benchemall one or the 2nd one?

I presume its the 2nd one coz of the wording of the problem..

try running the benchmark @ low resolution and min IQ...

I'll try that one tomarrow I guess. Though I'd want to try 1024x768 first (the res I tend to play at), and then take it from there. Yes, I tried the second link first when it BSODed. It was on the first test. Hopefully, it's something to do with the benchmark, and the game won't be having BSOD probs on my system.

well... whenever troubleshooting its best to list cpu/vid card/driver revision and any pertinent data about your system that can help troubleshoot it....

OK

- Athlon XP 1900+
- Asus A7N266-E (nForce 420-D chipset)
- 512 MB Corsair XMS 2400 CAS 2.0 DDR
- Visiontek Radeon 9600 (128 MB video RAM)
- drivers are catalyst 8.03...but I don't remember if I applied the non-beta or not right this moment. Device Manager lists it as version 6.14.10.6458

I dont know whats up but when I download the zip I cant extract it unless I just click Extract Here, and when I do I cannot access either the .txt or the .exe. This happened to all the benchemall's I downloaded (including mirrors at majorgeeks). I tried a random .zip and it worked fine so I think somethings up with the program..Anyone provide me with another mirror to try?

EDIT: Apparently Winrar doesnt like this file, I tried to extract it with XP's built in software and it worked like a champ.

OK, tried it today. The thing stopped going anywhere and was looking to lockup right when it finished loading the stuff in Far Cry.

I left, went to dinner, came back 1.25 hours latter and the comp hadn't budged. Had to hit the ol reset button.

I had tried playing it a little bit earlier, it did play (though I got stuck in that room where one picks up the gun, and can't seem to get past the baracade they left for me). As to benching, it seems a no go so far though...
