Manrake 10 Linux Nvidia Drivers + Newbie

Hi im new to the linux scene and ive tried many times before to like linux, i really want it to work this time but im having alot of trouble installing the driver for my geforce card. Anyways this is the only info i know how to give you...i am running Linux Mandrake 10 and the proble i have is when i go to install the drivers. It tells me that it cannot find the structure for the kernel, and it gives instructions on how to fix it for red hat linux....i know im being very very vague here but i hope someone knows whats wrong....thanks for all the help

try to install the kernel-source package

if you want to compile a kernel module (youy nviida driver) you need these sources

type as root in a console :
urpmi kernel-source

once kernel sources are on your box try to install the driver...


if the sources are present, then it might be a difference of level between the kernel you use and the sources you got (if you updated your kernel for example)

don't do urpmi kernel-source if you just installed mandrake 10 as urpmi will download latest sources (2.6.3-7 or -8) that don't match your kernel (2.6.3-4).

what you need to do is install the sources from CD 3 of mandrake distribution, that way you're sure they match your actual kernel

in the risk of me looking like abigger idiot.....how would i go about installing the kernal package from the third cd....thanks for the help!!!
