I have tried many different settings in my XF86Config, and I have googled forever, to try to find a way to get my screen to stop flickering. It flickers every 10 minutes or so, and it is extremely annoying.
I have a Sony Vaio PCG-GRT170 with an Nvidia FX5600 Go video card. I am using the 2.6.5 kernel on Gentoo 2004.1. I have also used the 2.6.3 kernel also on Gentoo 2004.0. I attached a copy of my XF86Config file as a .doc. I am using the driver 1.0-5336-pkg1, although I have also used earlier drivers and experienced the same problem. My video bios version is 04.31.20.37.a8. Joe |

The current fix is
Option "HWCursor" "0" Option "SWCursor" "1" in the XF88config file but beware, some uses are noticing redraw errors in openGL apps. |

Where do I put those options in XF86Config? I put them in the Device section and still I am having a flicker in my screen ever ten minutes or so.
Thanks Joe |

Yeah, that is where I put them, and the only thing that i noticed is that out of x, I could not see my writing. I don't know what the was related to, but I removed the options and restarted and haven't had that problem again. In regards to the flicker in the screen it never made a difference, the flicker continued to propagate every ten minutes or so. Thanks for the insight. Does anyone else have a clue how to get rid of such an annoying phenomena?

Hi,
I have a Toshiba P10 with FX5600go and 1.0-5336 and I have the same flicker problem. I tried as well the "HWCursor" "0" and "SWCursor" "1" and it didn't work. Any ideas??, Thanks. |

my favorite fix for any problem is currently adding
Option "IgnoreDisplayDevices" "DFP, TV" to the device section |

Unfortunately
Option "IgnoreDisplayDevices" "DFP, TV" doesn't make the flicker to go away, any other ideas?? Thanks! |
