Default tv-out support.... ??

Hello all, it's been a while since i posted here.

I see that after several months, 1.0-5336 is still the latest ia32 driver, hence i assume that the tv-out bug hasn't been fixed yet. This bug causes the screen to be set to physical textmode and garbled with random green and pink characters (mostly squares) when -not- specifically ignoring tv-out support (option "IgnoreDisplayDevices" "TV") with no way to restore it other than rebooting.

Is this assumption correct?

Angry Re: tv-out support.... ??

at last! someone with the same problem as me.. I can't imagine that everyone here has this problem, in that case I regret that I ever bought a nvidia card.. is there any solution to this? it's ok if it helps to run an app to restore the console.. I tried stm ("SVGATextMode - Textmode manipulation/enhancement tool") but all I got was a greenish text where lots of pixels where misplaced..

btw, is it the same problem with the 5328 or previous versions?

Usually when a program or driver leaves the video card in an unwanted mode, i'm able to put it back by running a X server in the desired mode and sending it a sigkill (kill -9 <pid>) and then using chvt to switch to another console. This doesn't work in this case, so i presume that the nvidia driver sets the card in some really f'ed up state when it tries to detect a tv device.

Ok, sounds hard to do when you don't see what you type =)

I tried the 5328 version, and it seems to work for me, will try a bit more when I get a s-vhs cable..

I have a script that does it (/usr/scripts/un****-console) otherwise i could connect from another machine on the network.

Also, see this thread ---> [SOLUTION] linux 2.4.2 + nvidia4496 + GF4 = CRT Desktop + TV-OUT fullscreen DVD
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=28684

... i haven't had time to try it out yet, but i hope it works.
