Unhappy nv driver used 75Hz, nvidia driver wants 76Hz - please help!

My video card is a GeForce3 Ti 200, and my monitor is a Sun Microsystems GDM-5410.

I was using 2048x1536@75Hz with the nv driver quite pleasantly. I decided to change to the nvidia driver so that I could have OpenGL support and probably better performance.

When it was first installed, it refused to run at anything above 1600x1200. I read through the documentation, and using the option IgnoreDDID helped work around that.

However, with that option enabled, X runs instead at 2048x1536@76Hz, which displays with horrible shadowing effects on the monitor (I'm guessing it is really only capable of running this resolution at 75Hz).

I tried a ModeLine that I found for 2048x1536@75Hz, but adding it to the monitor section of my XF86Config file seemed to have no effect.

How can I enable my monitor to run at 2048x1536@75Hz with the nvidia driver?

Thanks, Casey.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I determine the refresh rate by pressing the button on the monitor - it shows me the horizontal and vertical rates below the settings menu.

i noticed the 1024x767/100Hz option in my XF86Config file the other day, yeah i just checked, it says this;

Modes "1024x768/100Hz" "800x600/100Hz" "640x480"

its just that you wrote "2048x1536@76Hz", and maybe you should change this to "2048x1536/75Hz" rather than the @ sign. messing around in the KDE control centre added the "/100Hz" bit and i noticed it afterwards in the XF86Config file.

No that does not work at all. I wouldn't expect it to unless there was a Modeline that was named exactly that, but I gave it a shot and my suspicions were proven true.

I also tried using this modeline:

# 2048x1536 @ 75Hz (VESA GTF) hsync: 120.2kHz
Modeline "2048x1536" 340.48 2048 2216 2440 2832 1536 1537 1540 1603 -hsync +vsync

However it does not work, and the monitor ends up at 76Hz with a kHz above 121 IIRC.

maybe try shaking your monitor at 1Hz...
