I am having some pretty big problems with installing the latest Nvidia drivers.
I get errors like this when trying to do the install of the NVIDIA_kernel package (make install, from nvidia website) " Hint: You are trying to load a module without a GPL compatible license and it has unresolved symbols. Contact the module supplier for assistance, only they can help you. " and then for some reason, it seems as if it works anyway, until I try to run X with the 'Load "glx" ' line. I dont get any errors except that it says refer to log file, which has nothing about glx at all. last line about that is something like "loadextension glx" then I got back into console with a "check log files" message. (I did install nvidia_glx too, no errors installing that) I changed my XF86Config-4 file, from the "nv" to "nvidia", but in my /var/log/XFree86.0.log it says: ' LoadModule: "nv" (II) Loading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/nv_drv.o ' I have tryed this with the 2.4.18(before) kernels and the 2.4.19(now) kernels, and have the very latest debian unstable. (XFree86 4.2.1 I think) graphics card is an Nvidia Geforce2 MX 32MB Thank You in Advance. -Rburnes |

A few answers:
1) Unresolved symbols are caused by a mismatch between your kernel sources and your running kernel. You need to make sure your sources are properly configured to match your running kernel before you can compile the driver. 2) It looks like you have an XF86Config file in addition to an XF86Config-4 file. Can you post a copy of your /var/log/XFree86.0.log file? Thanks! --andy

I think I figured it out. I had a kernel mismatch thing going on, and after reinstalling a new kernel I could install, then I found out that I had forgotten there were two places in the "XF86Config-4" file that needed to be changed from nv to nvidia. It works now, but thank you for you're reply.
