actually... theres a lot more to it than just that,

An optical phenomenon that creates the illusion of water, often with inverted reflections of distant objects, and results from distortion of light by alternate layers of hot and cool air. Also called fata morgana.

so, you got half of it right, but theres the "distortion" of light from different layers...

this is all news to me as well.

"fata morgana" LMAO

"nVidia today announced the release of a new game called Fantom Mirage which features amazing new effect including life-like camel motions, volumetric sand storm effects, and a new effect dubbed "fata morgana". The game is also reported to run in ATi hardware but with less complex effects dubbed "nada mordowner"

Far Cry? 1600x1200 is where the top cards show their strength. Here we have the 61.11 driver on the 6800u which we know uses brilinear. We have that matched against the X800XT and Ati's adaptive "trylinear" (TM)*. It seems the 'performance king' stomps the 'slower' card here by a whole 3FPS. It is a victory indeed, but if my card beat another in FPS in this manner running a full 125mhz faster I wouldn't be crowing 'pwned', but to each their 'own'.

Enjoy your cards, no matter what you choose, I know I will enjoy mine.

yea but I find the difference between the 61.11 and 60.72 drivers disturbing.

GeForce 6800 Extreme > X800 XT PE
6800U overclocks better than the X800 XT anyways.

Crystalline rocks will always have some specular part due to them, er containing crystals. Such as granite. Some metamorphic rocks would not show as much spectacular specular ( sorry, I had to to get that in , hoping to get rocks for brains in there as well later) such as limestone or slate unless wet

Albedo is a property that nobody has mentioned yet, ie how much light is absorbed or reflected. The moon has a low albedo so is quite dark though you would not know it of course looking at the sky.

I did all that without using Google, are you all impressed ? it's probably all the wrong way around !

Regards

Andy

I've seen wet granite and wet sandstone when I'm out fishing, and that's pretty frequent. Guess what? Wet stones almost always have a shine to them. Take it from me.
