Default FX 5700 or FX5900XT -- what works?

I'm really tired of beating my head against this wall.

I would like to hear about any setups that work with the FX5700 or FX5900XT.
I am considering swapping my new FX5700 for a FX5900XT, if the latter will work with the 5336 driver, because I definitely can't get the FX5700 to work with any 2.6 kernel/driver combo.

So anybody please let me know of any working combinations of FX5700 or FX5900XT, kernel and driver.

Let me be more specific. I can't get the FX5700 to work with any nVidia driver.
It works with the FOSS "nv" driver, but not at 1600x1200 and no 3D.

I have a Leadtek 5900XT, running Linus Kernel 2.6.6 (NO 4K STACKS) on Fedora Core 1. Intel 865 mobo. Using 5341 PNY drivers. Unreal T. 2004 plays well. Desktop is at 1600x1200 on Sony 21" tube.

Before I tossed in the 5900XT I had a Ti-4600 running with same hardware etc.

An officemate, has a 5950 Ultra running with similiar hardware etc

T!

if you're looking at getting the DRI to work well under the new kernel, expect some problems.

my best suggestion to all of you is to use the 2.4 kernel until the new drivers come out that support the new kernel version. knowing nvidia it wont be long.

and, please, don't run the 2.6.6 kernel and expect it to work well. the 2.6.6 kernel is marked as "instable" -- just use the 2.6.5 kernel.

Cooll! Where do you have read this joke? From the KDE forum? SuSE?...

Please, 2.6 ist not for production systems, yes. But 2.6.6 is the latest stable in
the 2.6 line. And it runs here stable with Fedora Core1/2 wo probs with the nvidia drivers. Mostly the problem is before the PC...

Good night wo smoking too much,
Marcus

I got it to work -- all of it. 2.6.6 kernel, either FX5700 or FX5900XT board, 3D, glx of 6500 on the 5900 board -- woo hoo!

The trick was to go let XFree86 talk to the driver and make a starting point XF86Config by using XFree86 -configure. Then I worked from there.

The big problem was that on my Ti200, if I didn't tell it to ignore the CRT and TV outputs, it took literally minutes to settle on using the DFP. However, that same option is DEATH on the new driver, at least with these two boards:

Code:
Option "IgnoreDisplayDevices" "CRT, TV"
I've attached my XF86Config (in a .zip) for anyone who might be interested.
Attached Files
File Type: zip XF86Config.zip (6.8 KB, 136 views)

Kamel,
Please don't post about things you seem to know nothing about.
Once 2.5.x became 2.6.x it was marked as stable.
Sadly enough the mods here don't moderate people for spreading misinformation.

ScottMarks,
I've got 5700s and 5900s running on modified RedHat 9s (AthlonMP duals) running 2.6.5 and 2.6.6 without a problem.
Oh... all the machines are using the old 44.96 driver (the 53.36 seem to be unstable on SMP machines)

Cheers,

So far, so good, even with my dual 1800+ MPs. Maybe it's cause they're old and slow
