Default debian testing problems with current nvidia drivers

I am having problems using the nvidia drivers under debian testing. The Screen locks up on occasions and games segfault ( tuxracer and flight gear) and mplayer playback is slow. although the debian precompiled binary.org(contrib) modules never produced the screen lockup that is present from the current nvidia.com driver.

Any help is very much appreciated

Thanks in advance.

Make sure the nvidia module is loaded than do a

$XFree86 -configure

in a console without X running in the background.

Then modify the new XF86Config to your liking and mv it to /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.
