This is bloom. Bit blocky, but the blur algorithm is a bit naff.
![]() demo; http://opengl.nutty.org/effects/glare_full.zip Bloom is a where you take a certain range of pixels of the scene. (Often overbright parts, eg very bright reflections, looking at sun) blur it, then re-add it over the top of the scene, so you get blur overlapping other parts of the scene. |

I think the game is bad coded, like halo, crap called deux 2, and now this.
It's too low for both cards GFX 5900Ultra and Radeon and 6800Ultra. Developers have no clue about programming. Really J.C. is alpha and omega for them. It's not all about special effects in the game and so on...

Basically those games are so coded bad, that the card with 32 pipes would not help. I would shot myself rather than pay 50$ for **** they make...

Great Pics Mike-
Now the question is for many is should we go with the AGP or PCI Express hardware. Hope to see some comparisons soon, the real world difference is worth noting. I would opt for a AGP 6800 Ultra myself given my present investment. Hope to see a BFG review soon, maybe from yourself or Clay. His FX 5900 Ultra review was good, I have the card and it has been a great for higher resolutions and effects. Graphics are getting more realistic all the time Regards, MRX |

If someone else would have made this game using a different engine it would have probably been a good game. If the makers would have been from Painkiller, Manhunt, or FarCry, it would have run right.
I'm so sick and tired of games that run like this one does. No matter how good the game content is, the whole thing gets blown by a game that runs poorly. At least this is the way it is for me. To me the 6800 Ultra (from Mike C's stats) is not even running it fast enough. I tried the demo, already un-installed it, I'm done with this POS. People who make games that run like this should get out of this business period and let the ones who know what they're doing handle it. I may install it one more time when I get my X800XT PE to give it one more spin. Mike C's stats are better but there is only so much a vid card can do if it's a game issue. I have never been a big fan of the Unreal engine to begin with. All these game makers want to concentrate on visuals and the latest do dads, fine, but give me a game that runs decent. Some of those guys got their priorities backwards. I guess that's a by-product of pressure, deadlines, and trying to make a buck.

I curious as to how the X800XT performs.. because honostly, my 9800 Pro gets simlar FPS results to these....
From what I hear though, multisampling really kills the FPS though. 1280x1024 all options maxed, bloom enabled no AA/AF. 2004-05-28 23:53:32 - T3Main Frames: 1216 - Time: 21086ms - Avg: 57.669 - Min: 41 - Max: 76

Just downloaded the demo and saw this in the readme.
"1.3 Known Issues Thief: Deadly Shadows is not supported on Windows NT 4.0, Windows 98, Windows Millennium Edition, and Windows Server 2003." Looks like those not running XP will be out of luck. |

The low performance isn't real surprising seeing as it is basically a game that was geared for consoles first.
