In a few years who knows - I don't know why you are being smartass about it. Remember it wasn't too long ago when games were even playable at 1024x768 with a Voodoo SLI setup.

It's just a personal gripe. I still play games at 800x600, and wonder how tiny can the details get on the screen, before you can't even see the character model.

People keep screaming for more resolution, but it seems theirs a point, where it's like, why even go higher?

Sorry if I came across as harsh - damn steak on the grill isn't cooking the way I am wanting it too! I guess I have become spoiled with this monitor. With a 22" monitor (20" viewable) I can see the details as well as I could on my 19" monitor at one resolution lower (1600x1200 vs. 1280x960 for instance)

I am just wondering how hard it would have been for the devs to add a couple more options for resolutions. The Dell LCDTV that I use in my bedroom can sub as a monitor that runs in 1280x768. With the small amount of options for resolution in this game I would probably have to find a hack to get it to work right on that screen.

i hav been playing that game, and i think it is inexcusible to have a game coded like this. at least have an option in the menu so we can turn off the dynamic lighting. that will speed things up. it looks cool, but i dont care about it if my performance is gonna be crap. i have a great system and all games run great at 1280x1024 on my new LCD (thanks to saturn!! ) but thief runs slow. so excuser for this. and when i saw the 6800's running it not much faster... ridiculus

Just finished mission three, and I'm loving it,this game does not need 60 or 50 or
even 40 FPS.no game out currently makes use of so many real time shadows as
Thief:ds.50 bucks canadian well spent.and the sound is amazing to say the least
good art direction as well.

current settings 12x10x32 2x aa 2x ansio,everything maxed.

Ya know, it seems like the only people that don't enjoy the game are the ones who complain about the performance. You'd think people could look past graphics and framerate for what the game truely is. Hell, if I can play through the original Deus Ex at an average of 5 FPS (less in firefights) on my 200mhz computer, I think you can put up with sub-20 framerates in Thief 3!

The game is playable but that still doesn't change the fact that it runs like a dog. If this was a game I really wanted to play badly I could put up with it, but since it isn't I won't bother buying the retail version after my demo experiences.

i know that the game is great, i just dont think that it should run like this. come on... 20-30 fps at 1024x768 on a 5900? thtas not good. and on the 6800's, it aint much better. i am probably gonna get a 9800 just to lpay this a little better. but then again.. i am worried about doom 3. i am all about that game and its gonna love my 5900

Come on, i could bitch about tons of things that were simplified/dumbed down for the Xbox but bashing the game for its performance is partly What did you expect? To run like a charm? Buggy it may be, a resource hog up to a point it may be, but like it or not it has the most advanced lighthing/shadowing system bar none (yes, including ****ing FC that everybody has been mentioning on and on). And don't say it looks worse than an unrealeased product (HL2, D3 etc).

I'm very critical of ISA for many stupid things they've made to the franchise but give them some credit for at least daring to create a game with complex shadows that affect gameplay and the player can change them to his advantage. The fact that the gameplay is slow and doesn't require very high fps is not a good excuse, the lightning system however is a pretty good one.

This is how hardware capabilities vs. software requirements work. If it's too slow, you drop a notch. I'm running a 9500pro at 800x600 with everything maxed, and it's quite smooth enough.

Just because the latest and greatest video card can run *most* games smoothly at 1600x1200@4xAA doesn't mean it can run *all* games smoothly at that setting. The fact remains that this is a very resource heavy game, so there's no more reason why it should run at that setting than, say, Doom3.

I, for one, think this game looks and plays fncking fantastic, despite the relatively low texture resolutions and framerates.

This has got me curious ... Is WinXP 64-bit even out? If so, are IHVs and game developers actually optimizing their drivers/game executables for 64-bit processors yet?
