Default nVidia graphics driver locks on nForce2 based motherboard

sw: kernel 2.5.70, now 2.5.73, GCC 3.2.1, X 4.2.1, nvidia 1.0-4363
hw: GeForce2 MX400

I've applied a patch from minion.de, so graphic driver worked with the newest kernels. Formerly I had a VIA KT133 based motherboard and everything was fine, all problems were solved. Now I have a new motherboard - Epox 8RDA+ with nForceII-128 SPP chipset and X server locks upon start. Last message in logfile is from nvidia driver 'Switching to mode 1024x768'. I tried all AGP settings, even disabling it and it all came on same results. Switching to newest kernel also didn't help. Any solution?

Have you tried turning acpi=off, add it to the kernel line of your bootloader.

I have an nVidia card and an EP8RDA mobo, and had the same problem. The fix is to download and install the latest BIOS upgrade. Unfortunatly, you might need Windoze to do this. Hopefully, though, you can get around this.

Best,
-Brannon

Try using the nvidia built-in AGP support, and NOT the kernel agpgart. I've seen some boards do this stuff with the kernel agpgart support.

thanks for help folks! I was manage to resolve my problem by reserving IRQs as were described in one of the posts, it's make Nvidia sign re-appear once again

BTW anyone here using Gnome 2.6? as I've another problem and I'm not sure if it's driver or something else related.
when I open terminal and hit backspace whole screen start flickering, I'm not sure whenver it's caused by Gnome or my recent upgrade as I haven't tried new Gnome on my old motherboard. Any ideas what it could be or how to sove this?

I'm afraid that it's caused by putting several things to one IRQ, currently my IRQs look like this:
CPU0
0: 1765037 XT-PIC timer
1: 3193 XT-PIC i8042
2: 0 XT-PIC cascade
3: 55198 XT-PIC serial
5: 100000 XT-PIC ehci_hcd, Skystar2, eth0
9: 153639 XT-PIC acpi, ohci_hcd, ohci_hcd, nvidia
12: 52961 XT-PIC i8042
14: 381471 XT-PIC ide0
15: 39 XT-PIC ide1
NMI: 0
ERR: 0
