yeah, my 59XT running well, the credit is all yours. I'll check your 3 bioses you send to my mail. What I find is that the heatsink surface is that touches the core is not flat. no matter how much i apply ceramiq, there is always a very small gap between core & the HS surface. I'll use hammer to solve that, otherwise i'll took another heatsink from another MSI card & use it. Strange thing is, at default 390, card is running nicely with this small gam between core and HS.

Regards,

FAHIM.

Thanks Jimmor.
you could make a lot of money if you had the magic to mod an old 5600 to run at speeds of 1000/2000 ??? Not sure Nvidia or ATI would be pleased about the likely hit on their new cards though ?

running the core at 390 doesn't require very good heatsinking and so I'm not too surprised it ran fine with a gap between HS surface and chip ? However, to run stable when overclocked it is essential that temps are kept under control ! And it is obviously not possible to do this with improper fitment of a cards heatsinking !

Also, glad to see you are using up to date 21st century tools (a hammer) to solve your problems !

I replaced the heatsink with the same from another msi 59xt card. It is now running flawlessly @ 450/850. Hammering the HS didn't solve the problem, so i changed it.

what to do, when bluechip company like MSI supply their cards with bended surface heatsink...

must have been the wrong type of hammer you used, obviously not big enough for the job !

probably find that it is just bad contact between HS surface and GPU/memory that is limiting the overclocking potential of many peoples cards ??

However even if found to be the case, everybody is not as lucky as you with easy availability of the right spare parts !

Hi Guys!
I've got a question:
Is it possible to tweak/mod this BIOS: http://www.mvktech.net/download.php?view.20
I tried several oher BIOS Versions from other vendors, but I have always the problem with the flicker bug, if I don't use the original ASUS one.
Thanks!

the ASUS5900nu bios can be modified just as easy as any other FX59xx bios !

Ok, thanks a lot jimmor!
I was a bit confused as I read this:

"For the purposes of bios speed changes, neither the ASUS5900u or 5950u bios's are considered applicable as GPU and Memory speed table structures are totally different from all others bios's."

BTW: I have a problem with my current ASUS Bios: I can't overclock my card with coolbits or any other tool, when I'm using FW 60 series... Do you know if this problem is fixed in this bios version (http://www.mvktech.net/download.php?view.20)?

the bios you linked is a standard fx5900nu bios, and therefore can be modified like any other !

the reference to ASUS5900u and 5950u bios's in my guide is only there because these cards are somewhat unique in that they operate all the time in 3D (with fan on full time) and thus their bios structures are different from other 59xx types ! However if you had one of those and wanted to modify it, then it wouldn't be a problem ! Its just that currently they are not fully compatible with my posted guide !

and there are known problems overclocking with some of the newer drivers ?? If I were you wanting to overclock my card/bios, I would install an older and more stable driver first ? Once you have card/bios set at the best performance speeds/mods, you can then reinstall any newer driver !

Hey jimmor,

I flashed my BFG 5900XT OC card with your modded Chaintech bios and it's running great at 300/480/850. Can run all benchmarks and games so far without problems! I noticed you don't have the BFG stock bios so if you want me to email it to you let me know...
