Xplode,
no, I bought a vantec iceberq 4 and some bga heatsinks.
As I knew I would be pushing this to high limits.
390/700 was stock.

I did get a lockup and had to back it down to 450/910
and that could change too.
Still in the testing stages.
I should find the right combination in a couple days so dont use my settings at this time as anything but testing.

the 390/430/737 is what bfg clocked it at stock.
Actually they took chaintech cards and oc'ed them.

Yes the leadtek is here and I'm running it, you wouldnt believe the difference!
I wanted to run it a few days before I commented, actually I wanted to run it a week, thats about the time it takes to see how good or bad it will be.
for me anyway.

I cant even compare the bfg to the leadtek, being that the leadtek blows it away speedwise, with more software and price, the bfg was a few dollars more.

So far I'm feeling VERY cheated by bfg, In my opinion, this xt oc is a rip off, you can get an origional chaintech $40 cheaper ! and the chaintech has better cooling too.

running the leadtech @ 300/475/950 and it rocks!

LOL @ speaking nicly to the bfg, I cursed the wretched pile of crap even a day before the leadtek was here.
Glad to see you and your "freak" BFG5900XT are getting along so well ?? At least you can stop cursing it now that you are using the much better Leadtek card !!

As I've said before, your new choice of a Leadtek 5900 card was excellent !! Just as it would have been if you had chosen a Gainward ! Both these manufacturers cards are amongst the best ! Its just a pity you had to suffer a BFG to find out !

achieving 475/950 is very good for a 5900XT ! I assume this is with at least the bios latency change ?

Also what is the full name for your card, just in case I come accross any mods or anything else that could benefit it ??

What are your cards temps using the Iceberg 4 ? Also, how do they compare to stock heatsinking/cooling ?? And dare I ask how they compare to the freak BFG ??

Also I take it since you also bought ramsinks that your Leadtek card's Memory had no heatsinking ??

jimmor,
I enjoy suffering lol
Actually I learn more with problems then if I just throw a card in and it works.
Ati tought me alot of real hard lessons lol

this is the exact card
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...122-183&depa=0

it has the 2.2 memory also I have removed the metal plate on the gpu core.
and yes, it was using your latency mod suggestion.

temps were kinda high at 475/950 61c to 80c
at 450/910 its around 47c to 60c, idle/working.
as far as comparing temps with freak bfg, lol I couldnt touch the memory
chips in it (bfg) the leadtek is hot but not where it would burn you
the bfg would singe fingers.

Yep, no heatsinks at all on the sucker (leadtek) Also I did remove the plate on the gpu core on leadtek too.
so far I'm still at 450/910.
leadtek is much better deal then freak bfg/chaintech :-)

with 2.2ns memory chips with a rating off 900+, I can see why they don't run too hot compared to the BFG ! And obviously it was because it was burning your fingers that you swore at the BFG and not really because it was a bad card ???

I notice in the link you gave, that owners were flashing their cards with 5950u bios's ! Maybe something you should think about ? You will get better temp control with it !

Don't worry if your GPU goes up to 80C, its quite normal for a 5900XT card running at these overclocked speeds ! But because you want to overclock and run stable at high levels it is important that you improve the heatsinking/cooling of your card ? So make sure you also have a fan directing reasonable airflow accross GPU and memory ramsinks !

jimmor lol at burning my fingers/cursing bfg.
I thought about flashing to 5950 u , I may in a few days.

I just ordered this . . .
http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/vauvspfanca.html
maybe it will help some?
That should be enough to get some air to the card.
I have real good airflow through the case.
I replaced the lian-li case filters with panty hose, lol
thats right sheer panty hose , great filtration and zero air blockage.

Default Re: Basic FX59xxx bios changes

I've used PCI slot fans and found them to be very good for removing hot air from around the graphics card ! If I read the link correctly however, the Spectrum fan card is more about blowing air directly at and around your graphics card ! But under the circumstances, is no bad thing when you are overclocking !

I don't use any type of PCI slot card at the moment, just because I have 2 fans sucking in at front, 1 fan sucking in at side over CPU and 5900 card, and 2 fans blowing out at the rear ! And I suppose you could also say a PSU with 3 temp controlled fans also blowing some air out at rear ! But as it is a quiet stealth PSU, I don't really expect it to contribute much to case cooling ?

At the moment, I only have commercial filters on the two front fans, which are not that efficient ----> too much air loss for filtration given ! Maybe I'll need to try your pantyhose technique on my front and side mounted fans ? And if we are grading pantyhose, then what denier grade are you using ? Or do you just use any you find lying around ? lol

jimmor,
get in touch with your femine side man, use the force, but beware the wierd side, once you start down the path to wierdness . . . lmao

Seriously I just used sheer energy , watch out pulling them over the covers, you'll get runs (I hope no one I work with knows who I am lol)
runs suck lol
see ladies I know how you feel lmao
ah hem seriously again tho open the hose wide enough so that you can slip the cover in, and thats it.
Fantastic airflow great dust protection, and a sexy looking dust cover (wolf whistle) lol

watchout for Jethro hes gettin excited , jk Jethro lol

Maybe Jethro is getting excited because he thinks we are going to have a party ? So lets just wait and see what gear his visit to Walmart produces ?

Good airflow through your setup is most important, especially if overclocking everything, like I do ? Unfortunately the commercial filters on my front fans are just like thin sponge material which, although they trap dust, also restrict too much airflow for me ? Placing my hand behind the fans show a big diff in airflow between having filters in and out ! There are positions for 4 fans in front of my case, so I could just add two more ? However I believe improving dust filter performance would be the better route to take !

so thanks for the info !!!!

lol party lol
I hope Jethro doesnt get carried away and head to the bra and lipstick area lol

I had same problem , thick filter was killing airflow.
So I went in search of the perfect filter.
Panty hose, hehehe.
I have major dust problem here and heat in summer , central florida.

I can see panty hose sales going up all over the world now lol
Your welcome, glad I could help you out.
You've been a big help with my vid cards.

Thanks jimmor, using your information I have successfully changed my fx5200 speed. Can you tell me where to look for gpu voltage and memory latency tables in fx5200 / fx5200 ultra bios? (I have both of them). Many thanks in advance.
