Default Debian + nvidia == segfault?

I'm having a hard time getting the nvidia driver to work under debian (kernel 2.6.0). Whenever I startx the xserver will segfault leaving me at a blank screen. I've tried several different things, including installing nvidia drivers the debian way, using the tls driver, but have had very little luck so far.

If anyone would lend a hand I'd be very grateful.

Thank in advance.

Does it crash using the "nv" driver?

No crash only occurs with the nvidia drivers. I'd be perfectly happy with the nv drivers, however I'd like to use my tvout to record a presentation onto my VCR.

Thanks.

Look in /var/log for evidence of crashes - pick on the most recently written files. If it is an executable crashing, binary compare it to its source in its .deb package.

Try running X as root. Make sure you have plenty of bytes free on your filesystems.

Also check your ram (memtest86) - especially if you have an Athlon.
