Sweet, nice performance now! That's one of those old-school bugs... least you didn't find a moth in there!

Yeah with NVidia Drivers 4620 (minion), 16 Bit, NvAGP "1", SBA and FastWrites i pushed glxgears over the 10000 Mark ^^
That's great! UT2004 on highest Details it only goes down to 30-25 if very large areas and/or MANY effects.
I think that causes my CPU and RAM
But the card is at it's limits - and it's goooooooooooooooooooooooood!

The UT engines are typically bound up by cpu -- it shows the most when making significant changes in details / resolution makes only minor change to performance (2k3 was horrible with this but even original UT did it). UT2k4 demo seemed much better at this then 2k3... I'm hoping AAOps will migrate to the 2k4 engine to benefit from the performance change.

Yeah but perhaps a good Patch for the Game will gain a little boost, too ...
The Patch wich was released recently made UT2004 unplayable (crash @ startup)
But... when i think back.... the Unreal2 Patch didn't speed up the game...

Ah by the Way .... Unreal 2 is running on Linux with WINE20040505 with a new DX-Patch. Everything to download on www.winehq.com

Wow! This thread was really helpful in getting a little more out of my GeForce 5900 256MB, however I still feel I'm not getting what I should be. After trying various things on here, here are my glxgears and UT results with my P4 2.4 Ghz and 1 GB RAM system:

Avg stat fps from UT:
~25 - 30 depending on map

Avg glxgears :
~7000 - 7900

Is that what you would expect from a P4 2.4 Ghz, 1 GB Ram sys with GeForce Ultra 5900 256MB AGP card?

Thanks again for this VERY helpful thread!

@Zico
Anyway i suggest to shutdown gkrellm before playing ut2004. it produces lags and long loading times on my system due measure-overhead.

PS:
i should check my powercable too - i got only1800FPS on glxgears
(Is the Nvidia-GPU throttling down on overheat ? My GPU-Fan is fu***ing noisy)

7000 to 7900 is usually good for an 5900 @ 24 Bit Mode. The "lower" FPS Rates could depend on your CPU. UT2k4 demands a lot of it...
Perhaps you should try to lower the Detail Level of "World Details" in UT2k4 Settings. This gains the most performance in the game.
After that try to link the SDL and open AL Libs from UT2k4 to your systemwide libs.
If this does not help turn the Sound Output to LOW in the UT2k4 Settings... in most cases this means a huge performance hit on the most sound cards, because openAL is not optimal configued.
You could look at nvidia-settings too, and check if you VSync is ON... if so, turn it off... same for AA and AF.
