Thanks, I got a match tonight, and will test those out before going in.

I'll post back my results.

Thx for the tips!

Yeah, but my 5900XT hadn't this warning. And at this time, only the windows driver had a message wich infoms about that.

If you have an VIA or NForce Chip your MOBO shouldn't be the problem. After buying my 6800 Ultra MY biggest Problem was the RAM. IT was DDR333 on a FSB400 System. In Doom3 i only got 47 FPS in timedemo @ LOW Details. After upgrading to DDR400 i got 62 FPS @ ULTRA Details.

I'll keep that in mind. I'm on pricewatch right now looking, thx for the tip

I have a gf 6600gt, and I get around 6400 FPS in glxgears, ut2004 doesn't run smoothly.
In ctf-face classic I get around 16-40 FPS @ 1280x1024 using med-high or medium setting. Lowering resolution doesn't help at all. I checked everithyng in previous posts, best fps I get is using current setup, which is:
- Nvidia agp driver
- custom tweaks in ut2004.ini (by following many guides)
- I disabled composite extension in xorg

There are no processes slowing down my computer, I also tried to launch ut2k4 from console (xinit) - no difference. By replacing openal an libsdl I got a boost, but still it is not running smoothly. Any suggestions?
Or is normal to get such fps on a 6600gt ?
System specs:
Athlon64 2800+
1GB ram.
Geforce 6600gt (not overclocker)
2x sata drives (one 80 GB, other 250 GB both WD)

make sure, that 'cool'n'quiet' is deactivated, or the 'performance' governor is set. If your kernel is using any kind of powersaving technique, the fps of ut2004 will be abysmal.

before you start ut2004:

su -
root password

echo performance > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor

Wow! Thanks, that did it! Now I have 60-70 fps on 1280x1024@very high settings.
Although, if I run with chaosUT2 mod I get some performance loss (maybe mod is not optimized much).

I thought if I use dynamic (ondemand) performance governor it should automatically boost cpu frequency when playing games.

nope.

The ondemand governor looks if the load is at 100% several times a second (that costs some performance), and if it is not, it reduces the frequency (which costs a lot of performance). And even ut2004 does not generate full load all the time.

So the governor polls, sees that the load is not maxed, reduces freqs, ut2004 needs more cycles, load increases, governor reacts a little bit later, freqs are increased (which costs a lot of time and performance), cycle restarts.

Everything besides 'performance' cripples gaming. After you have finished you can set it with echo ondemand > /sys/..... back to ondemand.
