I'm losing my mind. I got Suse 9.0 Pro and a nvidia 5200 card. I'v tried both installing the new drivers from YOU and with NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-5336-pkg1.run. When I boot the nvidia splash screen comes up, then the logon screen. The mouse will move but I can't type in a user name, and the little clock don't run. I new to Linux and don't know a lot. Don't know how to save a copy of my xf86config file to the Windows partion so I can paste in here. I'm using a duel boot with XP (god I hate Windows). I'v reinstalled Suse so many times I can do it blindfolded. Please someone help B4 I put a gun to my head. Thanks.

Try this sequence instead.
Boot to runlevel 3.. to command prompt mode (you should be able to simply add a '3' to the end of the kernel parameter list at boot time). Run X as a normal user.. not root with the following command: startx -- -logverbose 5 > ~/xlog 2&>1 If this does not work and you see a similar crash.. try bailing out of the X session with ctrl-alt-backspace (note.. not ctrl-alt-del). There should be a file in your homedir that has a record of what happened, named xlog. Now, you'll need to get that file and the full X config and logs (/etc/X11/XF86Config and /var/log/XFree86.0.log) to the forum... You probably cannot copy your file to the Windows partition because it will be formatted NTFS (which you should not write from linux -- is it possible but can destroy the filesystem..) You could use a floppy disk, setup a mail account and email it using mutt, or browse to the forum using a terminal browser such as elinks, links, or lynx. |
