Linux AMD64 Drivers for GeForce6800
I'm going to buy a GeForce 6800 card but I need drivers for linux (amd64).
Anyone know if nv driver of Xfree/Xorg works for 2d only until proprietary driver come? |

I dont think anybody has a retail 6800 to know for sure.
It should work no problems if not the vesa driver will work. I am sure Nvidia will have a driver out by the time the 6800 cards are widely available.

Atleast xfree86 from cvs contains an updated nv driver with Geforce6800 support. Perhaps also the current 53xx drivers support the Geforce6800. If that's the case likely the card will show up as NV40.

I've tried a 6800 Ultra in Linux. It didn't work in 2D with the nv driver that came with the latest version of X.org, but it does work well with whatever the default driver is (I assume vesa). I'm here right now searching for any info on when I can get official Linux drivers for it.

I tried the 5341 drivers and no luck. My computer froze with a black screen on startx. I'm sure we just have to wait until the card is officially out. According to the Flash animation at the top, the 6800 is ready to ship so hopefully it won't be long.
