Plus the 6800NU also has got much better AA quality. For $100 more you can get the 6800NU and put it in your machine now, then move it to your new machine when you get it, and use it to hold you over until NV45 is cheap
Thanks alot for your reply Ruined.I wish I could of bought an 6800 but all I got is around $200 right now. I guess I have to go with the Leadtek 5900XT and OC it, until I get my money for the new rig.

Here's a good article about ALL GeforceFX cards, tested in several games. Read it and decide for yourself which way you should go.

Well, I guess he went for the 5900...
I'm still enjoying my 5800U over a year after I installed it. I might even skip the entire 6xxx-series if the replacement is out mid-2005. Here is another link indicating the strong performance of the 'antique' 5800...
http://www.ixbt-labs.com/articles2/over2003/index.html
I certainly wouldn't part with mine for a 5900 of any flavor...
BFG still has 'refurbs' selling for over $200 - http://www.chumbo.com/info.asp?s=MGX-10128958

Yes I did go with the Fx5900XT since almost everyone recommended it.(hope all em were right) like I said I need this card for about 2-3 motths, Then I'm gonna get a new rig with the NV40's. I just gonna overclock it and enjoy until then... Also I heard that the fan noise of the 5800 is really loud even when its idle. Only thing I dont get is how does the 5800U have a huge lead over most 5900 cards in benchmarks??

The core of the 5800U is clocked at 500Mhz while 5900s are clocked at 400Mhz. Quite a lot of extra horsepower and only begins to fall back in high levels of AA/AF when memory bandwidth becomes the limitation.

Your ears will thank you for going with the 5900xt

Don't believe eveything you hear. This is rumor-mongering by the ignorant.

I own both 5800 and 5800U. I suggest that gives me an informed opinion.
- My 5800 Ultra fan in 2D is silent. Perfectly silent.
- My 5800 non-U stock fan is louder in 2D than the 5800 Ultra in 2D.

Indeed- the 5800U is silent during 2D operation/ quite noisy during 3D. As far as benchmarks, the 5800U excels because of raw fill-rate- a byproduct of higher clockspeeds...5900 brought nothing new to the table (save for a 256-bit memory bus that had negligable benefeits). Even running shadermark shows the advantage of the 5800U over it's successor-
Here is a 5900 (courtesy of Anandtech.com)

neither card is modified or overclocked AFAIK
...and here is a (my) 5800U:

As current owner of a 5900XT, 9700 Pro, and 5800U, I'd really have to say that the performance on all these cards at this point is very similar in common gaming situations...

It does seem to me however that the cards with 256 bit memory interface seem to feel more consistent in their fps than the 5800U... Painkiller comes to mind...

...And the one thing keeping me from gaming with the ATI... no Digital Vibrance... I seem to like the nv cards' color better...

BTW, keep checking the front page, we'll have a BFG 5900XTOC Review up shortly!!

Well I'm not gonna do ANY 1600x1200 gaming with this card, 1280x1024 most likely with maybe little af/aa if it can handle it...
