Talking assigning tvout as a specific desktop?

in my greatest of dreams..
(computer related- at the moment)
I'd love to be able to assign my tv-out to be a specific desktop, so that I can start an app, and then send it to the desktop for viewing, leaving me able to use the machine, while my wife watches missed episodes of joan of arcadia. (or the children watching random mindless drivel)
If that desktop alone was cloned (so that I could page over to it and manipulate things)- that'd be perfect! especially if it was trouble free with full screen modes of video playback.

what are my options? is this too much to ask for?

p.s.- many thanks to danny for detailing his journey with getting his fx5200 tvout to work.. made my endeavour smooth as silk.
p.p.s.- if someone could translate and post the french site danny noted, it'd be very helpful- since babelfish butchered it in many less than hilarious ways. I know the same info is in the readme- but not as clear and concise.
