Tonight we'll find out what my ears think.
Not only that, but good luck trying to actually make a digital connection with your Z-680's and the Audigy2ZS. The Digital Out on the A2ZS is some proprietary thing from creative, not optical or Coax (Maybe the versions with the LiveDrive will work? Im not sure myself)

Apart from that, enjoy your new system and dont forget to check out these forums for all your A64 questions. P.S. Your not the only one getting Newcastle chips from Newegg, been seeing that alot lately.

Yea thats what I ended up picking up since every post I read in various forums recommended it above others primarily for gaming due to its low cpu usage.

Digital out works fine on the audigy. All you need is a regular digital coax cable + (mono) rca to mini plug. btw the A2 doesn't have optical out so you have to use coax. O and PCPer isn't the only place I've been frequenting lately: Overclockers.co.uk, AMDZone, nforcershq & anandtech are also on that list

Newayz I can confirm analog does sound better in games & music but I'll still use digital out whenever watching a DTS/AC3 encoded DVD movie.

discipledoc be sure to post some feedback on the board after you get everything installed. O and welcome to the A64 club

That peice wont do it. It works but does not split the audio in seperate channels like its supposed to.

The only thing i see working is with this peice from creative. http://us.creative.com/products/prod...=16&product=30 but it does not seem to support the Audigy2 series.

Yes it does work, I've heard it, also read the end of the second post in this thread. Its not up to the adaptor to split the audio into multi channel, thats done by either the dac on the soundcard or the decoder on DD/DTS enabled speakers.

And that product from Creative is really only for those who want the digital optical port in additional to the coax one that comes w/ the card.

Ok, after several tests and hrs research on sound technologies, I take back everything said earlier about the Realtec ALC850 codec thats equipped on this board. Switching between it and the Audigy2 zs is no difference whatsoever, dare I say the alc850 codec sounds a tad better. Yes technically on paper the A2 should be much better but the ears tell a different story. Also it comes w/ optical & coax digital out ports, the later sounds better to me. Newayz, this latest vers of onboard codec from Realtec should not be overlooked. At least until Creative's next card comes out

Needless to say the A2 is going back to BestBuy....

Woohoo! Down with Creative!

I'm glad to hear your happy with the onboard sound, it's good to know that board's onboard audio is good

I'll have to keep my eye out for the Realtec ALC850

So how does the gameplay with the new setup compare to your old one? I'm thinking of moving to an A64 system myself, but don't want to spend all that money if it won't be much quicker than what I have now.

the onboard is not bad... in games though you will notice the difference (EAX) but other than that its highly subjective...

If theres one word that can be used to categorize gameplay experience w/ a64 setup, is "smooth". My last rig was not exactly slow by any means but now everything just seems to run extremely smooth, no studder in fps at all. Have also noticed faster times encoding mp3's and what not.

Overall I'm fairly pleased, just waiting on some more ram to come in to continue the quest towards 270+ FSB 1:1 & an official bios update from MSI. If you're thinking about s754, wait until EpoX & Asus' nf3 250gb boards are availible in a few weeks. If you've got the dough, go s939 but be ready to experience the growing pains of having the latest/greatest silicon.
